She is eating oil, now what?

Got 6200 miles and about every 500 its eating about half a quart of Amsoil 10/40. Bike has another 2 weeks of factory warranty. Im going to tell the dealership but I do not want the bike torn down all spring. Has anyone dealt with this problem? I have heard about it before.

My 06 was burning 1quart in 600 miles and I was told it was the rings. My 07 is burning about 1.5 quarts in 2000 miles. Get it to the dealership immediately or Kawasaki will not help you if it is out of warranty. If you need more about my story,,,, my email is TOM@WHITESTARLENDING

My 06 bike is coming up to 4K miles, quite a lot of those miles done in competition. Currently it uses no oil at all between changes. Kawasaki's idea of what is acceptable sucks.

I have been riding for over 25 years and can't believe that 1 quart in 1k miles is acceptable. This is a Kawasaki,,,not a Harley.

I called my dealership and they are writing up a ro. This way it is documented. Their is no way I want them to tear down my bike now, hell we just got into riding season. I do beat the shit out of it, many redline runs, wheelies, ect. I do the recommended services and change my oil every 2k. These bike are ment to be run. The funny thing is I dont see it smoking exept when I start it and apply gentle throttle. My buddy says that it blows smoke, black, when I shift this is probably fuel but who knows. Any one else have this problem

It's to rich !!! no way should you see black smoke ....If it's rich it will wash down the rings and burn oil !!!!! The extra oil get passed the rings and thins the oil ...Not only that it can and does cause what is called black death on the rings and piston skirt ... Get the bike mapped to a safe air fuel ratio and step up to mobil one 15 50 and that should help if it's not allready to late ...

I worked for Caddy, chevy , ford and chry and the standard is 750 miles to a QT of oil....At least Kawi it's 1000 miles ...lol... I would check your map also may be that you are to rich and burning off oil because of it ..Running a motor rich will kill a set of rings real fast because it washes away the lube that the rings need to live a long and happy life ..I build motors for a living and have seen it happen 100s of times ....

Rebuild her bigger and stronger. 1415 sounds about right.
Or you could just re-ring.

My 07 is completely stock and burns 1.5 quarts in 2k miles. My 06 had Muzzy Slip ons and a PCIII which was mapped by Dynojet in Vegas and it burned 1 quart in 600 miles. The map for my 06 ,,,is the map that is on Dyno jet's website that I am sure has been downloaded by other Guys. I think there will be many many more stories about hte 14 burning oil.
Time will tell. I do love the Bike and hate that I have had this experience.

You must be the most unlucky guy i have ever met ....Two zx14s in a row burning oil , you can't get more unlucky than that ..I have had zero problems with my zx14 ( knock on wood )...Trust me i'm harder on a bike than anyone one i know or have known ...One would think i would be burning oil like a Model T ford....

14 burning oil

I really appreciate your sarcasm,,, I mean sympathy. I ride with 4 other Guys that have 14's that can't believe my luck either. I ride 500 miles EVERY weekend at crusing speeds of 110mph to 120mph. Crank it to top end once in a while. But I had a 12 with 40k miles that never burned a drop of oil and it was run just as hard. Guess I gotta be nice to the wife because the 09, 14 will be out before ya know it. Can you say TRADE IN!!!!

I have over 5k on mine and have not hat to add oil...
2 oil changes...

Are you blowing blue out the pipes?

not... ( I find it hard to believe you are going thru that much)

We are not in the summer months yet.

Not for synthetic...

You have blowby... Easy to prove.
Get to the dealer ship and have them check your compression...

Please keep in mind I did not read all posts...
Sorry if I re-iterated this.

Just to throw this in.....I work for Chrysler, on some engines....its normal according to them to burn 1-2 quarts between changes after 50k.....so its not abnormal for a company to say that....but very riduculus.

Maybe you could overfilling it. Don't want to insult you but are you checking the oil level with the bike balanced straight up on a level surface? Too much oil could cause problems.
Or this could the problem

What does this have to do with anything?

I have no excuse just blatant sexist stuff. Just seeing if anyone noticed.

I had the bike mapped at HPC. The air fuel ratio was 13.1. The bike has a Tsukigi pipe, it was dynoed with a steel can and I changed the can to carbon fiber. I dont know if that would effect the map.

I understand ... Easy test .... unplug the P/C , change oil and filter and ride it ... If the rings are not allready shot you should see the oil useage go down or go away... Question for you ...Does your oil get black fast ? Does it smell like fuel ? ..Also pull the plugs and have a look ..
