brock's diaries have some good mph info, if you have a speedohealer and enough room and straight road to top it out you can get 200 from a 14. hell the experts do it in a mile........
if you are talking pure stock they are limited to 186mph or so

Bob, a pipe, powercommander, and speedo healer were the only mods to your bike for that speed?
That's fantastic.

I think most bikes are a LOT slower then people think. I think your typical 1000 with pipe and power commander will NOT hit 186, but that is just my opinion

Ranast.
The only other alterations are Muzzy lowering links and a strapped front end, plus mirrors off of course. Everything else is standard, unopened motor and stock wheelbase + OE tires.
Oh and a bit of practise.

use a GPS....
the literbikes might get close on top speed but it will take them a while to get there...
the big bores pull relentlessly in comparison, especially near top speed...

My 600 will get to a radar accurate 160 mph and not go ANY faster...so I would assume a liter could actually get to 186 pretty easily.

I wouldn't. I'll say 181 mph.

I didn't realize how much my speedo was out until I put a Garmin GPS on my bike. Now when someone tells me their top speed, I skeptically ask them if they had a GPS on their bike. If they say they are going off what the bike is telling them on the speedo - then I know they ARE NOT as fast as they think they are.
Conspiracy theorist are convinced that manufactures increase the speed that the bike reads to clock off the miles so that the bike jumps out of warranty faster...something to think about.

I think it's more that manufacturers are required to be accurate at some set MPH readings, and beyond that they're not worried so much about taking into account all the different things that speed effects. I remember my speedo being pretty accurate up to 70mph. Beyond that, the inaccuracy began to widen as the speed increased. Unlike speedo happy Suzukis, my Kawis topped out at 10% inaccuracy(200mph speedo = 180mph GPS).
For a bike, there's a lot to consider in measuring higher speeds. Gear ratio, tire size/diameter/expansion, ambient temperature, friction/tire slippage, etc. Am I right, fellas?

there is the issue that a larger person wil lhave a much worse Cd compared to the same bike with a small rider. The shape of the fairings on most of these bikes was designed around a small rider.
And that makes a huge difference.... So while these bikes may all go 188 , they may not go 188 with any rider.

What the hell you trying to say Wrongway?!?! It's all about the bike, not the rider! I'm getting tired of people saying my size is why my bike is so slow. It's not my fault I got a lemon from those bastards at Kawasaki!!
