If you're going to do the basic mods you will love it. If you planning on "building" it you'd better have some CASH/TIME. I out ran several 1397 Busas yesterday in the 1/8th, a 1/4 miles race might be a little different. I own a Busa also and the 14 is definitely smoother/lighter than mine.

I went for my first ride of the season on friday night. Just before the rain started.

If you do not ride this beast everyday, your first ride reminds you how powerful the bike really is.
Come this fall though I will be used to the power house. Turbo time...

Very hard to answer such a broad question..But i can tell you that the ZX14 is at the top of the motorcycle game in many areas..Is it the best ? well thats really hard to say..Is it the best for your application thats all in a opinion..If you love a motorcycle with a motor that really doesn't care what gear your in and will pull from 1500 to 11000 rpm like a freight train then the 14 might be for you..You need to keep in mind the ZX14 is Kawasaki's Flag ship and they pulled out all the stops to build it for the average person who can afford a 12 grand bike..It has one of the best clutches ever put into a production motorcycle and the reliability has proven to be very strong..If you want a bike that is very flickable for corner to corner transition then the ZX14 might not be for you..It handles very well but it's not a great canyon scraper..Just to heavy.. But if you like a smooth motor "unbelievable smooth" Great brakes and a style like nothing on the road..Consider the 14..If it's your first bike then look elsewhere..Its just way to fast for a average rider..To easy to get in trouble and over your skill set..With a few mods this bike can pull a wheelie with just pure throttle in third gear at over 70 miles per hour and it's just under 500lbs..Is it worth it, well it's hard to believe its as cheap as it is.. I have owned 17 sportbikes and now have a GSXR1000 and the ZX14 the Suzuki sit's and i ride the 14 because its so damm much fun..I dont regret anything about it..In short its a very modern and capable motorcycle..The only complaint i have is its very difficult to keep it under 100mph.

the 14 is the smoothest fastest bike you can get, i bought mine in sept 06 and there is nothing out there to make me change. i love the handling and driveability, it is larger than a 1000 but it fits me perfect. go sit on a lot of bikes and see what fits you, as for the 14 two thumbs up.

If your definition of "a few mods" consists of a turbo or maybe 16/48 gearing then maybe, but i just dont buy the 3rd gear wheelies for a ZX 14............maybe a ZX 10 or GSXR 1000................otherwise you wrote some good stuff..

BTW, i'm not trying to be a jerk here, and its not just you that have raised the 3rd gear wheelies issue.........but i'm just not buying that................for the record my bike has flies out, PC3, 16/42 gears a high perf air filter, full exhaust and i have to make a concerted effort to pull a 2nd gear wheelie..........i will add though that i am at 4500 feet so that could have a slight impact..........but unless you got real low gearing, a turbo or at least 215 horsepower i just dont see the 3rd gear wheelies on this bike.

If you are going to heavily modify your bike then get a new BUsa, you just cant beat the aftermarket on the busa, and if yuo dont mind the ugly tail. If you are going to do basic bolt on mods I would go with the 14.

There are better bikes for the dirt, touring (maybe), some bikes have better looking instruments. But the 14 will take a horrible beating . The lower end tranny, rods, crank, clutch are the best around by a long shot over anything out there. The potential is 650 hp with the 14. Getting more power from the 14 is simple and easy. One Big Dog Harley rider called my turbo 14 the Mad Dog. Its still just a puppy though with only 235 hp at the rear at 4225' elevation.

No........... checked out the web site, was in Germany a couple of years 1969-1970, worked as Honda motorcycle mechanic , The 14 is my 36th motorcycle and the best one so far, I've owned 3 Indians (real ones) 2 Harleys on the American made side, can't think of a Japanese bike brand I haven't owned.

The 14 is the best bike i have ever owned, its incredible on the street and on the drag strip. Which is all i was looking for in a bike. I know that doesn't sound like i am asking much, but it does both better than anything else.

if that even make any sense?

The zx-14 is a very comfortable bike. Even a beginner can jump on and get use to it very fast. Clutch feels great compared to other bikes I have been on. Suspension feels more like a cruising bike rather a sports bike. Jump on and take your time to learn how the bike reacts to your demands, you should learn the basics very quickly.

I went from a 600cc to the 14 and I have to say it was a fun transition. From the factory, it's a very forgiving bike in the low-end (below 6000 rpm's). Now this is on the 06-07 models. I believe the 08 power comes in around 3000 rpms. Once you get some seat time in, you're ready to unleash the beast and pull the flies, get a full exhaust and install a PCIII. It will take some good throttle control once you do this, but that's all part of the fun! You will never get tired of this bike, at least I haven't yet

I also live at 4500ft up and with stock gearing/flies out/pcIII/very good map/tre/filter/TI race cans I can pull 1st and 2nd gear power wheelies on demand....and the front gets VERY light and dances all over in 3rd under power on anything less than a smooth road ...I have NO prob seeing someone power it up in 3rd at sea level. Stock up here it would barely lift first under power tho The flies out with good mapping and race cans/filter turned it into a wheelie machine

Third gear wheelies are by far the majority of the times I lift the front wheel. I do have a sixteen tooth front sprocket which does help. Usually I will be registering between seventy and ninety miles per hour in fourth gear, and will downshift under power to third. The front end always comes up, but not always for a nice comfortable wheelie. The front end usually comes back to the pavement at one hundred to one hundred and ten. Sometimes the front end will rise a little on a full power shift into fourth. Unlike the Suzuki crowd, I do not stand up and counterbalance it. I thought this was normal for ZX-14's with a pipe?

I got onto the interstate one day at nearly full twist in third and when I hit fourth, I shifted fast and popped the clutch and The front lifted about an inch and the handlebars wiggled a little. That put a little fear in me!
