Ride Home Or Haul it?
I live in NC and am buying my 14 from a dealer in Florida. I was planning on running down there to put it in my Pick Up truck and haul it home, but I just had an idea to rent a car, go down there and ride it back up. I am a truck driver and will be relocating the bike from the dealers lot on Monday and keeping it at my moms house in FL until I get back there on the 19th....unless you guys think the ride home would be an experience not to miss. I know it has a 500 mile break-in or something like that, but I could stop frequently if need be. Thoughts?

It sure would be easier and cheaper to ride it home .....Just make sure you keep an eye on the oil level ... Don't drive at one speed or RPMs to long .. Go 60 then 70 and than chance up again and you should be fine ... There is a guy here i know that got a new zx14 in Washington State and drove it back to FL with no problems but for some really bad monkey Butt ...

i travel for a living and its pricie to rent a car in on location and drop it in another, my vote is ride the thing. wish I'd have known, I just hauled my bike to NC/TN mountains (I'm in the twisties now) and could've delivered for no more than the extra gas to get it to you
look us up sometime in FL!

I'd trailer it, so you can break it in better and not on a constant speed of a highway. I broke mine in on back roads and a few highspeed straights. RPMS were all over the place for my break-in.

Oh no...I would be crazy if I bought a 14 as my first. My first was a Seca 750 when I was 18, I rode my dads Eliminator 900 for about 6 months and my most recent bike was this one:
Cost wise, it would be the cheapest option to put the bike in the back of my '53 trailer with a load of freight back to NC, but that is not really an option, second would be a cheap 4cyl car rental down and ride back, then finally would be driving my F250 Diesel down there from Savannah, GA on the 19th ( I will be there racing on the 17th and 18th).
The weather doesn't intimidate me, in fact, when I had that Fizzer, I picked it up in the rain. (Lived in Seattle at the time)
I guess option D could be paying one of you board members to ride it up here.

Why not fly? One way ticket and riding it home would probablly be the least expensive and the dealerships may even pick you up at the airport. Never hurts to ask.

BTW, make sure you go over the bike with your allen wrenches before you leave, or have them retorque the fairing bolts. Both bikes that I've bought locally were missing some type of fairing bolt/screw before I hit the 500 mile mark.

I thought about that too, but figured the ticket would be expensive since it will not be purchased that far in advance. I will look into it.,
