1936 zx14... Vs 1935 busa.....lol...
My dad in 1936 owned and 1935 Indian Cheif ....The Chief was a really bad boy in its day .. Like myself my Dad was allways looking for the next big thrill.... Spring 1936 My Dad was going to take a trip from his home in North Ca down to LA to see his older brother .. He got about 30 miles into his trip and the Indians 45 cube flat head motor locked up .... He push it to a HD dealer in Sacramento Ca and what did he see sitting inside the dealer? He saw a brand new 1936 61cube over head valve Harley Davidson .... He could not take his eyes off that motorcycle and with in a few hours he owned it ...I was the very first 1936 HD sent to Sac and the very first one to be sold in Sac ...He jumped on his new ride and had a trouble free trip to LA ... He said it was so much smoother that the Indian and the power was just out of this world... He could not wait to get back home and race his friends who all had older model HDs and Indians ...He raced them all and beat them all ....
Before you raise the bull shitt flag let me tell you this is a true story ...This happened just as the way my dad told it to me .....I have pictures of both bikes in our family photos ...
Fast forward to 2006 and his Son trades off a 1999 Busa for a Brand new 2006 zx14 and he just happens to get the very first one sold in Saint Petersburg FL ...First words out of me after my first ride were > This thing is so much smoother than the Busa and the power was out of this world ....
Time moves on but some things never change ...

Cool true story Smokin. True motorcycle lore is a wonderful thing. An appreciation I wish more people in the here and now would explore. History always has habit of repeating itself.
I believe the movie " The World's Fastest Indian " should be required viewing for all motorcycle owners. Also " On Any Sunday & On Any Sunday Part II ".

Back in 1979 i took him for a ride on my CBX and he loved it !!! 1985 i took him for a 125 MPH blast on my 1985 Vmax .. He really loved that Vmax because of the v4 motor ...He wanted to ride it but he was just to old and had not been on a motorcycle since the 1950s ....I was just to scared to let him ride it even with all the flat racing and hill climbing he did years ago ...I could just see the headlines ( Son let dad ride his Vmax and kills himself ) ...He passed away in 1994 after a long and happy life ...

I really have my dad to thank for not letting me have a car when i was 16...He told me that he started off on a motorcycle and said to me ( son you are going to do the same as i did ) ... So he got me started with motorcycles...Not to many dads would start a kid off on a motorcycle these days.....
It seems i took after my dad and became a dare devil like him ..... Back in his day fun was riding into town standing on the seat and flipping off the local cop ...lol and then run like hell ... No way would an old cop car ever get him .... But the cop knew where he lived and would just go to his home and tell his mother what he did ....My dad went into the Air Force and ended up serving 28 years ..He was in WW2 , Korea and Nam ... Retired in 1963 LT COL Alfred Newton Pritchard ...Not bad for a guy with nothing but a high school Diploma from a poor small town of Linclon Ca...

Great read... and FYI Smokin my Grandfather has a 1935 Chief in his shed outside his house that he bought brand new. It is a small world. Maybe one day I will get to restore that old chief.

Smokin:
Great story. I am a Florida guy to and we've never met, but the way you share all you know freely with all here speaks for you. Your Dad may have passed on in '94 but he LIVES in you for sure.

Yup it changed big time ...Those pictures were taken in Linclon Ca in 1936 at the old family farm ..My great grand dad bulit that home on the late 1800s...It's all gone now , it is all strip malls and cookie cutter homes now .....In 1850 it was an 900 acre farm that my Great Great grand dad got from John Sutter ( Sutters Fort ) for 900.00 dollars in gold that he panned for on the banks of Feather River ...

The sooner you start restoring it the better. At the very least get them carbs out and fully clean them. And dont let fuel touch them again until its ready to be ridden again. You know how much a good set of those carbs is probably worth? Or how hard they will be to get replaced? Just tell your pops that you want that bike too live on after he goes as a reminder of him to all his grandkids and great grandkids. At his age I don't care how stubborn he is, he will see the reasoning and let you do it.
Great story though! I know you have more, so why not spill them? Might want to put them in the Bike Chat thread so everyone can read them.
One more thing: Just how old are you!? I thought you were in your thirties to forties. Guess I was a couple decades off, eh?

Thanks for sharing Smokin, I know the feeling as my Dad had several scooters (Lambretta, Vespa, etc.) in his youger days, and when he was about 63 yo he bought a Kawasaki Vulcan EN500. On 2003 I had the chance to ride with him (I was riding my Steed VLX600) and we made a trip to Mendoza (Argentina) together (about , 500 miles away, crossing the Andes mountains). We did that trip cus my Mom passed away on 2002. He passed away on 2005 and about a month before he was still riding his bike.
