Concrete info on the 08 model?

I read no flies, then I read where others put them back in. I read get a pc, then I read there are no maps for the 08 yet. Pipes have question marks also because of different size utilized in the 08 expansion chamber, also some slip ons issues. I have been reading everything I can find and it appears the gurus have the previous 2 model years figured out nicely but the 08 is a little different of an animal. Different part #'s for the head even. Ricky G claims any stock 08 will give you an honest 174-177 rwhp out of the crate That will be enough for me during the break in miles. I am trying to be easy, but it's hard to abstain if ya know what I mean.
Anyways, I guess what I am asking here, does any of the gurus have specific numbers out on the 08's yet? I have read pulling the flies does'nt give much bang if any on the new model. One would think a new exhaust, ridding itself of 3 cats would make an improvement, not to mention less weight.(40 lbs) Then, the next question is what map for what exhaust?
I am trying to learn what works best so I can get the best bang for my buck. I am just not convinced because it was the optimum set up on an 06-07, that it will still be the best way to go on the new bike. Any thought or suggestions? Take it ez on me, I admit I am a dummy, just trying to pick some minds looking for actual numbers on an 08.

H0mr,

Good job on NAILING the situation on the 08 14!!!

Yesterday marked the 6 month anniversary for my 08, and I'm still looking at the stock pipes for lack of hard evidence.

Unfortunately, the 08 seems to be the bastard stepchild at this point. 06-07 owners will tell you that the 08 is slower and less powerful than theirs, Brock seems to have abandoned any reports on the 08, and of course there is that pesky 08 Busa, not to mention all the attention given to the new ZX-10R.

Having owned an 06 14 also, as good as it was, the 08 is noticablly better for several reasons, but nobody seems to care except for the 2 of us!

i have heard brock is close to getting out the new map for the 08, i believe between the weather in ohio and moving to the new shop it delayed the 08 testing. he has given temp 08 maps probably based on dyno work, but is waiting to put the finishing touches on the map at the track. also kawasaki released the 08 late in the season for testing (winter) of course if brock lived in sunny fla he could test all year long....hint hint

I've got the Brocks SS system and PCIII still sittin in their boxes, waiting for Brock to come up with a map for "flies in".
My '08 stock feels just as strong as my '07 with flies out and slip ons,,,,at least on the bottom end. Top end is another story.

Apparently the busa does'nt get just all the priority. I found this info and it was online back in November of 07.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know you guys aren't going to believe me but, as my name is Rickey Gadson, I swear all results are true and honest!

I wanted to post Dyno results in stages, but Frank must have a lock on pictures, as I have not been able to post graphs since last week sometime.

I find it hard to believe myself but, this 2008 ZX14 is....what it is!
I wouldn't associate my name with this if I did not think I could duplicate it with any 08 ZX14.

UPDATE...UPDATE...UPDATE

Today I received my new Prototype exhaust pipe from Muzzys which he has been extensively testing with the 1530cc\ 240hp pkg.

It looks like the M-10 with different dimensions, but it obviously works!

I dynoed the 08 today with now 119 miles on it, and it made 179.6.
One hr later I was ready to go back on the dyno as to keep the conditions the same.

The graph went from 179hp to 188hp with pump gas.
After a few runs to heat cycle the bike it jump up to 190.
A few more cycles and bam.......191.4
On the next run the bike started to run out of fuel and made more hp because it leaned out before it ran out.

That told me it was gonna love U4.....and luv it did.
4 runs lata 197.0 but what was unbelievable was the torque..................120 ftlbs with NO tuning!!
DAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMNNNN!

Lets recap all mods from crate til now:

lowered front and rear
Ceramic wheel bearings(World wide bearings)
no filter
Muzzys new (M-14) pipe
-1 tooth on rear (40 tooth)
U 4 fuel
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am not too worried about the U4 fuel, but did you see the numbers with pump gas? 191.4 and the thing is'nt mapped yet. Wow. FWIW, Mr. Gadson says any stock bike out of the crate will get you 174-178 rwhp. That aint bad.
Mine is straight off the showroom with 370 miles. Changed the oil around 100 miles as I wanted all the new metal out in a hurry. Will change again at 6-7 hundred, then get back on track with normal factory recommended oil changes. It's hard not to get into the throttle but the one and only time I hammered it, the front end raised on me in 3rd gear. I knew right then the bikes got more Kahunas then I previously thought. I would bet when more info gets out, 200hp will be here with just simple bolt on mods.
So for now, the bike gets broke in all factory, but it's nice to have a better idea what's in store for us in the future........

One more thought here, if you noticed, this bike did'nt even have 120 miles on it. Everything I have read states the bikes get quicker and quicker as they get broke in. One cat said his bike improved up till 5k miles. The power/weight ratio is just friggen awsome here fellas. What a ride. Now if the weather would just cooperate so I could get away from the computer talk and get some happy time with the new beast.....

Changed oil at 100 miles? Sheesh, I just got my 08 in Friday, been too busy riding to change the oil. 250 miles already - it's like I don't want to get off the thing. Maybe I'll break down one night this week and do an oil change - ya really think there's that much metal in the oil after a 100 miles or so?

Proably overkill on my part, but I have seen the amount of metal that comes out of a fresh motor. Even after they are broken in I have seen what magnets catch that go past filters. I would'nt get bent out of shape if it had went longer, but I definately would shut her down long enough to change it at 600 miles as suggested. This rocket is a keeper so I am trying to do her right. She runs a little warm so I want to get the cats off and synthetics inside her. I am thinking 3k before changeing over to synthetic oil, maybe longer..

I had a 06 zx14 now I have a 08. The 08 definitely has more power. My 06 made 162 SAE HP stock,173.9 SAE with Muzzy full system, PC no flies and custom map, 180 SAE HP with these mods. plus Royal Purple and Wrapping my exhaust. My 08 Dynoed 175.6 SAE HP with stock exhaust, PC no flies and Muzzys stock exhaust no flies map. That's more HP than my 06 with full exhaust & custom map. Also taking the flies out on my 08 did make a difference on the bottom end just as it did on my 06.

Definately a keeper - man, I have enjoyed my other bikes but this beast is something else entirely. So eager to please., yet so refined. I smoked some nerd in a BMW M3 on the onramp this afternoon - and my ride was $30,000 cheaper.

I want to get the cats off also, about to order a Brock Street Gen. Strongly considering a more sport-touring oriented windshield too - the stocker puts my helmet right in the 100-mph windblast.

bigdtd is correct about Brock's 08 testing. The weather here in Ohio has been terrible this spring until recently. Brock will not release any maps or pipes with dyno testing only. I was at Brock's new place about a month ago to pick up my wheels. The 2008 14 was on the dyno. They've had a lot to do at the new facility converting it from an OH EPA vehicle testing facility to a warehouse and dyno testing area. He's also setting up all of the other infrastructure for the business, like computer systems, security, offices, etc.

He also has a lot of things in the works. I'd expect Brock will be testing heavily this Tues. and at the upcoming AMA Prostar race for the 08 Busa and 08 14.

I have been pretty intrigued by what I am reading about the new Muzzy M14 exhaust set up. Rob mentioned a few things about it on another forum then he got asked about the differences between the earlier models compared to the 08. He quit posting info but did say the M10 was the way to go for 06-07 while the M14 was the ticket on the 08.
Another question I have about the SE 08 in particuliar. The flat back, what are you guys doing as far as waxing that? Mine gets pretty dusty and I need some protection on it to keep the bugs from sticking bad. Seems weird waxing flat black so I have just been useing, don't laugh at me now, Pledge. What are you fellas useing?

Yes H0MR the difference was about the same between flies in and out on the 06 and 08 at least it felt the same. I did not dyno my 08 stock with the flies in. On my 06 I picked up 8 hp below 5500 rpm's with the flies out versus flies in. I don't know what the below 5500 rpm gain was on my 08. I have a friend that dynoed his 08 with the flies in so I will see if he still has his stock dyno chart and I will compare his below 5500 readings to mine with the flies out.

H0mr I will ask my friend what kind of wax he's using on his SE. Whatever kind it is it kinda makes it look like he has a clear coat on his bike and it really helps with the bugs.

I got this email from Brock's Racing today:

These Maps are for use in 2008 ZX-14's with a Stock Engine using Brock's Performance Street Megaphone System (Standard or Shorty megaphone) and a ZX-14 PC3 USB Power Commander Dynojet Part # 234-411.

These maps represent typical combinations for street and track use based on Stock and Modified engine management combinations. These combinations include removing the secondary throttle plates if desired.

SPECIAL NOTE ON THE TRE-008: We have determined that the addition of a standard TRE-008 is NOT REQUIRED on the 2008 ZX-14. The 2008 ZX-14's stock ECU opens the secondary's at a more aggressive rate than the 2006/07 models, our testing suggests that this new rate is nearly identical to the rate supplied by the TRE-008.

We now supply "deceleration pop" reduction mapping for use with the TRE-006A on request (simply request by reply to this e-mail).
WARNING...this locks the bike in the neutral map. We have proven this to SLOW YOU DOWN at the drag strip!! But it does help prevent decel pop on the street.

SEE MAP NOTES FOR SPECIFIC DETAILS.

Good Luck and GO FAST!

Brock
