The other night in traffic it got to the bar below hot twice and the fan was working fine. Have anybody put two fans on one yet?

Yes. Check out this thread:

nothing new.
Thats why we have the search function.

But not all of us are suffering from over heating.

If you are check out the sensors. Replace them.

Drop your stock exhaust system.

The bike cools off fast.

I let my bike sit and idle last summer MJ. It kept getting hotter and hotter, until the dash started flashing and I had to mist the radiator to cool it down.

So much for your long winded theory, huh?

edit- it only took about 10 minutes from cold, in about 90 degree heat.

I've done that with my 14, busa, 10, gixxer 1100 just off the top of my head, to see how they cooled and where the fan turn on/cut-off points were, and none of them had a heat issue.....so I'm guessing your 14 must have a prob? I do maintain my machines extremely well tho too...can't stand a bike I can't trust lol And I imagine you didn't check it with a separate temp gauge? And you didn't wait till it started pushing out alittle coolant? You just saw the gauge go up and then you panicked? Was the fan running the whole time? And did it start running at 3 bars, 4 bars ect? The 14's gauge is notorius for reading high....do alittle research, guys have tested it and it aint that good. In fact in this thread somebody mentions a 14 overheating according to the gauge, but being fine temp wise when they checked it with an independant gauge If your really concerned I'd test it with a separate gauge or have a shop test it rather than have to worry about it so much If you haven't already I would def either find out if you have an inaccurate gauge or something more serious....it seems like the majority of 14 owners online don't seem to have any probs, but personally I won't ride a machine till its working right....or I know what its particular tendencies are
I forgot to mention LCD bar gauges suck the big noodle...the 14's temp and gas gauge are a waste of space imo Analog all the way baby! lol

"but personally I won't ride a machine till its working right....or I know what its particular tendencies are "

exactly why feelings. I am not going to let it go until it boils over, thats insane. I'm sure its just the gauge, but it runs at 2-3 bars when Im moving at over 25mph. And the fan comes on, not sure if it does at the right temp ornot, or if it always comes on (its too quite, cant hear it over the Two Brothers). I did that test heat up test when it had 800 miles on the odo. It has gotten ALOT better since it passed 2,000 miles and got the Two Brothers slipons on. I'm sure after I install the Muzzy fan I bought, and thermal wrap the headers it will become a non-issue, even with that stupid LCD bar gauge.

It just isn't the ZX14 almost all high perfomance bikes will heat up while at stop or cruising at slow speeds. IMO you can add all the fans you want and it may help a tiny bit. The Problem is at these low RPMs the coolant isn't moving fast enough to get cooled down in the radiator. Next time while at stop light twist the throttle a little see if the temp drops ..that will move some coolant around

Not an issue. The reduced flow of coolant through the radiator simply means the coolant has a longer time to shed its heat, and revving the gas is simply burning more fuel, heating the engine unnecessarily.

However, if you are dealing with a sticking thermostat, revving the engine can cause pressure fluctuations that might help unstick it. Also, if you happen to have any air trapped under the thermostat (usually happens when you have drained and filled your coolant, or if you have ran low enough on coolant for air to have entered the engine coolant passageways), anyways that air pocket doesn't transfer heat very well and can allow the engine to get really hot before opening. Once it has opened, the air is flushed into the radiator and is no longer an issue. A one time deal unless your coolant level is low...

PS: Some high dollar automotive thermostats (meant for older no-overflow-tank cars and cars whose thermostats are mounted higher than there radiator) have small holes drilled into them to let the air bleed out. If you suspect an air pocket, "sloshing" the water at the bottom of that air pocket either physically or by revving the engine (causing the coolant to splash around from the pressure fluctuations) can get it to open before it gets too hot.

As I stated I seen 250F many times when I had my Honda Blackbrid and it nver puked coolant. But twisting the throttle did drop the temp about 5 degrees ( while at stop) You have to keep coolant moving some if the ZX14 pukes coolant there is a problem somewhere for sure. I never seen one do it or even heard of one with that problem. I talked to two different dealerships and neither of them have heard of such a problem. Anyways good luck

I understand your sentiments Sticks...when I got my first watercooled bike I was always thinking it was running too hot..bugged the hell outta me. But I've owned so many bikes anymore that I've kinda learned how they work...wayy diff than a car. My first water cooled bike was an 84 900 ninja....it was the only bike I've ever had that pushed any coolant out, and although it lost so little it hardly mattered..it still bugged the hell outta me. And it did it from new, never hurt the engine and I sold it that way running great (the dealership said it was the nature of the bike, we replaced tons of stuff never got it fixed). Bike motors are tough, a little coolant coming out won't hurt them abit. But its not right and I wouldn't stand for it either. Except for that bike I've never had any other probs though. My 14 gauge will definately climb high..but its never overheated yet. I don't give the 14 gauge much credence and am not going to worry till I see coolant coming out..till then i'm gonna ride and enjoy

True enough. Funny, I have owned more than a few air cooled bikes in my life, and I never gave a second thought to overheating them. Even in the middle of a 105 degree Sacramento scorcher! Just changed the oil every 1500 miles in the summer and called it good. Gotta love them old Suzuki aircooled DOHC engines!

Go to the autoparts store and pick up a infrared thermal heat sensor, or stop by the stealership and have them use theres, and record the temp of the top of the radiator where the upper hose comes in. That will be the same heat as your gauge is reading. Get your 14 up to full temp by idling etc.. then compare it. I bet you got the same problem the rest of us have had with bad sensors and/or crappy innaccurate gauge.

Coming from a Harley, huh? damn man, better be careful when you twist that throttle on the 14. Seriously, no BS, the absolute eyeball retina detaching thrust of the 14 at WOT above 7,000 rpms will remind you of the military's "Shock and Awe" concept. Even guys that come off of 600 supersports and big bore un-fairinged bikes are surprised by the 14's power. "Word to the wise"

Yep I actually miss my old air cooled bikes in a way, those were simpler times, less weight and alot less equipment to maintain or worry about. And like you said with no temp gauges I just rode'm and had a ball. And never a heat prob either

Water cooled bikes have radiators that vent heat on the rider, unless they're really well engineered not to (Suzuki). My HD runs as hot as my ZX, if not hotter, but there's no rad or fan blowing hot air on me, so I don't feel the heat.
