Running cooler w/ aftermarket exhaust.
Hi there,
Just trying to clarify some things I heard from folks.
Does running an aftermarket full exhaust like Brocks or Muzzys help the bike run cooler / less heat buildup?
It's going to be 110+ this summer in Southern Az. I'm trying to shave degree's off.

Huge difference in temperature with my Brocks exhaust. Gets pretty damn hot in El Paso too---no issues after ditching my stock exhaust.

dump the junk...
put a pipe on it, runs much cooler, and good 4-1 much stronger.

Does a slip on remove the cats or is that only on a full system?

The 14 runs MUCH cooler with an aftermarket exhaust, and like dubious said topend over rev is much better as well.

slipos will remove as the cats are in the mufflers. but it will still leave you with the heavy, hot, JUNK cast iron factory header

My experience too, much cooler without the standard system. The fan does still cut in sometimes but not every time you're in traffic.
I can put my hand on my bikes Titanium silencer without losing skin. When I first bought my 14 in 2006 I touched the standard system with a bare leg 5 minutes after turning the engine off and I've still got the scar. 'Nuff said.
On the 2008 bike there is a third Cat in the collector as well as the two in the mufflers.

My stock pipes burned the hell out of me a few times and melted some shoes, too. My c/f cans can be touched right after shutdown will no ill effects! You may also want to look into ceramic coating for the headers...

I have Brock's Gen III StreetSmart. Prior to having the headers and mid-pipe ceramic coated it ran cooler than with the stock pipes, but, for me, the difference wasn't all that much. It still ran on the 4th bar when in slow traffic or sitting at a stop light. Ceramic coating really helped. Heat radiation from the headers into the radiator during slow going was significantly reduced. You can order ceramic coated headers and mid-pipe from Brock and maybe from aftermarkert suppliers as well. If you can't pre-order you can always have them coated like I did. The coaters are pretty busy however. I had mine done over the winter. If you have them coated by someone other than the supplier you'll need to mask the parts which fit together or have them expanded slightly. Otherwise the fit may be too tight and you'll have a hard time installing. I know Brock's coater accounts for this.

the aftermarket pipe will definitely reduce the heat you will feel as a rider, and it does lower engine temp some
