Tobin Seats

I wanted to post this to warn consumers of the terrible customer service I experienced dealing with Tobin(owner of Tobin seats). About 3 weeks ago I contacted Tobin and explained that I had recently decided to do business with him and had heard great things about his service and work quality. I further added that I was out of town on business and needed to get my seat back by 3/29(Saturday). He stated, "I can do it and I needed to get my seat ASAP". I had this forward to him and he got it last Monday 3/17. When I called 3/24 to inquire about shipping eta, he hadn't even started(what the F was he doing with my seat for the past 7 days). I politely reminded him that I was coming home this weekend and needed my seat. Needless to say, he just got my seat to the postal office today and now I won't get my seat until next week! In the interim period I've had my Brock's pipe ceramic coated, purchase lights from Japan, miscellaneous parts off of EBay, and many other parts for my zx14 transformation. All my parts are here but no seat??!!! When I tried explaining the urgency today with him, his snarling comments were as if I had did something wrong(but I gave him MONEY and seat in a timely fashion). It was like, "it sucks to be you". I'm in the customer service/technical field and I'm blown away with the rudeness and procrastination of some of our American companies. How can you get a light from Japan quicker than a seat from Pennsylvania(keep in mind the Japan company sent my lights the day after I purchased them and that was placed after dealing with Tobin)? Now even though I will do all my other mods this weekend, I still can't ride until I get my seat(THAT SUCKS!). He even had the audacity to suggest I pay for overnight shipping, not! My Money and time is valuable! If a consumer is needing him to provide a service before an important event, you may be disappointed. I know there are people on this forum that don't like Corbin, but picking Tobin is like picking between the Devil and Satan. I hope his workmanship does not reflect his horrid service.

SupermanT,

Sorry that you had such a bad experience with Tobin. Ironically I just got my seat back from Tobin last week and I must say that my experience was just the opposite. Tobin called to let me know he had received the seat and we reviewed the order form to confirm what I wanted done to the seat. When the seat was completed he called and confirmed when it would be shipped and when I would receive the seat. The workmanship and quality of his seats are outstanding. I have owed Corbin seats in the past and decided to try Tobin and I am very please with the results.

I must admit I wasn't in a hurry for my seat since my bike is parked in the garage and the weather hasn't permitted me to ride anyway. I'm not taking sides in this matter just relating my positive experience. I knew if I sent my seat in I wouldn't be able to ride until I got it back so if I were in the same situation I would have either bought a seat off e-bay to send or I would have waited until a time period where I wouldn't be waiting to get the seat back ie: vacation, winter etc.

I would also like to point out that Tobins work is all done by hand and it's not like he has seats in stock waiting to ship, each one is custom made for each individual order so it is not an assembly line. I think it's just Tobin and his wife.

Sorry once again about YOUR bad experience and from the other that have dealt with Tobin on this board that doesn't appear to be their experience either.

Thanks,

Even a late seat, is still better than a corbin seat!
The Canadian Corbin rep told me to buy a second one, when the 1st one didn't work for me!
NO JOKE, Phill told me to sell my seat on the classifieds (for 1/2 price obviously) and to order another!

Anyone who knows me by now know s what my reaction was to that!

Red, I'm shocked as well! I didn't want to really drag that post out anymore than I did but we discussed the time parameters and he assured me that it would be no problem(with days of grace). I'm fair and extremely proactive and if I knew I wouldn't have my seat back, I would've sent it in at a different time(like my next road trip for work). This choice also was my birthday present from my girl and my first time ever buying an aftermarket seat. I researched for months, asking many people on this forum of their experience and quality. His attitude and disregard for what I was ask of him really threw this over the top. When it came down to money it was all good, but if you can't complete the task at hand, at least you can call, send it overnight(on him!). This was not my fault at all and I bet he will be riding his bike this weekend! Over 2 weeks to send a seat? WOW

Hey Wheelie,

It was 4 days shipping UPS to get there ( from Texas ), 4 days for him to complete the work, and 4 days shipping back to Texas. When I spoke with him he said normal turn around is 2 to 3 days but because he had been on vacation he was backlogged and would of course work on orders first come first serve ( which is only fair ) and the turn around would be 3 to 5 days.

Thanks,

No, you didn't understand his post fully. He's "whining" because he was promised it by a certain time. If you PROMISE a job to be done at a certain time, you better gawddamn well get it done by then! If not, don't promise anytime. It's good business.

I am sorry that you had such a bad time with Tobin. But you said that you were in the service industry, and in the service industry sometimes shit happens. I am in Canada and I shipped my seat to him, he called me twice to make sure that he had the information correct, the seat was finished, and it is currently on the way back.

All I can say is, sucks to be you.

Fish- Babies whine, I'm an adult and was informing future customers of my inconveniences. If I had a better experience, I would've reported that fairly as well. All of the other complaints I've seen from this site and you never mentioned to them that they whined. Don't get it twisted!!! I'm mature and over this small hurdle. Thanks for your support though(irony). For those that have shown understanding and business etiquette on this topic, truly thank you! Good news or bad communication is the key. Just my .02
I can always choose to stay mute, no problem!

Wikidzx-14- It doesn't suck to be me, I love me! But everyone has opinions like a-holes.

I beg to differ...

What other members don't know is that you quite literally spammed the site posting your rant in almost every forum. You created work for me and the other moderators deleting your redundant posts.

That's not cool

Superman, Thanks for the info about the seat deal. I'm looking to purchase a seat sometime in the near future and your information that you posted here in the 14 forum was helpful. Sorry that you had a bad experience with them. And for the record... your last post says a lot for the kind of person that you are. Good luck with any future mods that you make to your bike. I'll pm you my e-mail address and you can send me a few pics of your bike & seat if you want when you get it all together, I'd like to see how it turned out for you. I hope that your seat comes in looking just as you ordered it. Good luck!
