front sprocket removal
I searched the forums for instructions to remove the front sprocket. What is the best course of action? What size of socket? Or is there a special tool?
Thanks for your help.

There is a post on this page (help front cover) that may have the info you are looking for. You could also use the search function to locate other posts regarding removal of sprocket.
Hopefully this helps.

so 1 1/16 socket, and what a breaker bar? I assume an impact would be too much for it.
thanks

Nope...Impact is the way to go. Make sure your socket is a 6 point impact socket. A 12 point may round over the nut. It's a tight sucker

You can get someone to hold the brake, or stick a 2x4 through the rim and let it rest on the swingarm. It's a 27mm socket.
Better get a long cheater bar as some of them are more than tight.

Make sure you push back "ALL" the lock tabs that hold the sprocket nut on. There are 2 hex nuts you can use a 6 point socket on, the smaller one is a 27 MM and the larger one
that is flush againt the sprocket is a 1 1/16 or 35 MM but the depth on it is not as deep as the 27 MM. You will see when you are looking at it.

This is covered well in page 6 of Shanes build thread with good photos.

a six sided DEEP socket 27mm is the correct size (this is a metric bike!)
1 1/16 is 26.98mm and will do fine but is NOT 35mm!

I have a sprocket nut in front of me and Digital Caliper that goes metric and standard. The larger nut is a ruff casting and measures several different values from 34.89 to 34.77. My Bad the 1 1/16 is the small nut. This nut measures from 27.17 to27.03 on this one. Both hex nuts are a ruff casting and they will differ a bit. You are correct about the 26.98 being
a 1 1/16 . And thanks for the info. I think we all know where a 14 is made. :-)
