OH NO... Another tire thread

Well, i'm probably going to get flamed because i know that there are bound to be a hundred tire threads, but i didn't find the info that i was looking for. How are the Shinko tires? I like the thought of the drag radial, but am guessing that it problably doesn't last very long. I've got to buy a new tire before my trip and i don't want to spend too much on a tire because it's most likely going to be ruined by the 2000 mile trip that i'll be going on. the south west is really really straight so i'm fairly certain that i'll have a flat spot. If someone would be willing to shed some light on the situation i am all ears. has anyone found a Cheap tire that hooks really well, and lasts fairly decent?

If you are going on a long raod trip, why are you wasting time with u soft anyway! That tire is mostly used to drag race because of the soft compound. It hooks great. Why havent you looked into the shinki 005 if you are riding for distance and wanting a tire to last. Now as far as tires go period. I have tested almost all the top brands and shinkos do last longer than other drag tires on the street but IMHO, I would get the michelin pilot powers. Great tire, long lasting and they will hook up too!

the only reason that i would go with a usoft is that The weekend before i leave to ride it back to cali i'm going to the dragstrip for its final runs in texas. Has anyone tried the continental Sport Attack tires? I thought that the Pilot Powers wore out really fast. I definitely wouldn't be opposed to buying them if i thought that they were going to last more than 2-2500 miles.

+1 for nightmare. I used the U-soft on an emergency road trip( roughly 2500 miles round trip) and found myself having to replace the U-soft before returning home. $$$. I had enough tread to make it home, but not @ 90+MPH. The Pilot Power will be a great compromise. The profile of the U-soft is pretty 'flat' across the center, which only gets wider with mileage. Obviously, you'll have less and less contact patch with more mileage. Less contact, less lean.

Where abouts in the southwest?

I'll be going from Paris Texas to San Diego. Most likely i'll be going diagonal across texas to Elpaso and then running the 10 until i can catch the 8 into San D. So i'll be going through abilene, Elpaso, Tuscon, Yuma, and San Diego. I thought about cutting straight accross Texas so that i could cut through Rouidoso *Sp* NM. There is some beautiful scenery through those mountains, but I don't know that i want to do the extra miles because it's pretty far out of the way. So far, I'm thinking Shinko-005's, PP's, Or possibly the Pilot roads. I'm going to go check those out in a few minutes.

No way I'd take that on Shinkos.

If you do hit Ruidosa, go thru Cloudcroft and cut across to Ruidosa & head up to the top of the mountain. Beautiful Ride! If you take that route, you will run by White Sands, NM----there some long stretches of desert to burn up if you want to test the upper limits. I wont be back in El Paso until August-ish for mid tour.

You may already know this, but I-10 & I-20 are 90 mph during the day and 65 at night. They will ticket you 5 over at night...if they don't see your military ID. The troopers are usually really thick about 30 miles east of El Paso and NM troopers about 50 miles(Las Cruces, NM) west of El Paso.

There are several board members that live along that route.

Have a great trip and be safe.
Jeff

My dad was the White M109R that was spanking all of the harleys. My stepdad was also the Chevelle SS themed roadstar with the bobbed fender that won his class in the bike show and my mom was on a Black roadstar lowered with apes and nice wheels. I have run out there quite a bit in my car and on my quad, but not on the bike. My dad does a lot of running out there on his 109 though. How close to Paris do you live? Maybe when i come back we can do a ride or something. I know for sure that i'm planning on throwing a big barbeque, so you're more than welcome to come out for that. Oh yeah, my grandpa was the Old bald man on the Stratoliner that was calling the harleys out all day. He was in the middle of Radiation and went against his doctors orders to go race lol. Paris dragstrip has a lot of heritage behind it, but it's bumpy and doesn't hook up worth a shit on a bike. Do you remember what kind of times you were turning out there?

Thanks for the good info to help me plan the trip.

LOL, small world. My car has been racing there for 30 years. It's a red 1972 comet GT. I worked at and raced sand drags for Paris honda, yamaha, harley davidson in highschool but quit them when they opened the new building. They wanted me to miss a national race for their grand opening and i quit lol. My wife is staying in Corinth or lewisville, whatever you wanna call it lol. There was a busa at the dragstrip opening weekend that was only running 6.90's. The guy that rides it is huge though. A guy named Jamall Booker. His dad has a turbo busa that went 5.30's in shrevesport, but i don't think it's a street bike.
