Sticks, i just read ur reply and i agree, i though of that too, higher rpm rev, higher the rings travel, and the heat expanding the conn. rod. I did rev that bike, i wasn;t letting just idle, i hitted it and let it idle and hit. Man, it's just the rumors, but truely i believe that if i get a new bike, i should let it run atleast to the peak of powerband, like 8-9k. Just that i got the bike almost a month now, and it was the weather got me idling and idle rev. If not i'd had been out there bringing it up to 8-9-10, but not near the redline that's all. I got almost 400 m and my oil already dark as heil. Man, i rode for 20yrs, and this is the ugliest part of owning a bike. Am i right? LOL

Update .................
Just got back from the track with Jesse and Teddy and my zx10...The zx10 did very good tonight , the first pass off the trailer it ran a 6.20 @ 120 ...The first pass was an easy one to make sure the air shifter worked... The second pass was very telling ( this thing needs more gear )... Bogging off the line got me a 6.15 @ 121..Ok now we are getting somewhere !!! Third pass yelded a 6.09 @ 122 still bogging off the line with a 1.63 60 foot ....Forth pass i needed to find a better way to launch the bike for better 60 foot times ..Forth pass i lowered the RPMs to 5500 where i had been trying 7000 and ran a 6.00 flat @ 123 ...Ok i'm on to something here guys ... My last pass was 5.98 @ 123 with a 60 footer of 1.54 ..At that point we were out of time for any more runs ...
Just to recap the mods >> 62 inch wheel base, NO pipe, No P/C , pump gas 87 octane ...
This thing needs more gear to get the 60 footer and 330 down ..I'm in first gear passed the 330 mark unlike my zx14 that i would have been in 2 gear by that point .. My last pass was a 3.95 330 time ...My zx14 would be 3.6s at the 330 mark ..
What makes me real happy is the MPH > 123 is only one MPH slower than my zx14 !!! So this zx10 as it sets now should run 152 to 153 in the 1/4 mile with an ET some
where around 9.20 or maybe a bit better ..Keep in mind this is with NO pipe or Tune , wrong gears and very little seat time ...

Just curious. Are you getting any wheel spin off the line? If so do you think the bogging is due to the Ignition managment/traction control?

No spinning ... It was dead hooking ....Problem is not the engine but the gearing is way to tall for drag racing ..Causing me to have to slip the clutch way more than i would ever do with my zx14 ... Gearing will fix that problem ..The zx10 has flys just like the zx14 and i believe they are also causing low power down low ....

The slipper clutch has not been a problem so far and as far as i know anyone that drag races a zx10 has never had to mod it or remove it unlike the zook 1000s and Busas ....no one has ever made a clutch mod for the bike because it seems to work fine without one ..

slipper clutch on many newer bikes eliminates the need for a hydraulic clutch system, which sheds a pound to pound and a half (between the clutch and the hydraulic junk on the front)

If there are that many problems with them, i can't see it being beneficial to lose a pound and a half and gain an inferior clutch. Seems to me that it would be worth the little bit of weight to have the better clutch. I mean fuck, the bikes weigh so little as is... What's a pound and a half when you're making 150hp at the tire.

depends on howyou define "better" clutch. for those of us that ride on the round tracks, the old technology non-slipper hydraulic clutches are pure garbage in comparison

I got my 1st oil changed on my 08 ZX10R, 2brothers pipes(it's loud, and got deep tones), took it to the S turns on 50 degree days and almost used all the rubber on edges. Other than crampy, this bike is awsome.

i've pulled the flys and exhaust valve on a 05 and it ran worst down low ...but by all means try it for yourself ..

Hey Smokin, i was just checking out Schnitz Racing and noticed they make a lower 1st gear for the ZX 10, this and/or lower overall gearing could be just what you are looking for.

Mike i did see that .....But i want to keep it as a stock motor ( as in never opened ) and see if i can beat my zx14 mod for mod ... After it's all said and done i may do that low gear ....
