That is fat compared to Lee's 150-160. If I remember right. So would the 10 be too small for me torque wise. I like the 14 but want to hit some curve every once in a while when the ten is not stretched. But I would like to be fast in the 1/4

I'm 155 now .. I put on 5 pounds eating hostes cup cakes ...lol At 200 pounds the zx14 may be the ticket for you ..The zx14 is no zx10 in the twistes but Steve on his zx14 had no problems staying in front of liter bikes on the gap .. I can tell you a zx10 has nothing till it hits 8 grand while the zx14 ( flys out ) is on kill at 3500 RPMs ....Drag racing ??? Well at my weight with the same mods the zx10 should go the same ETs as my zx14 ..The zx14 is a very easy bike to go fast even for a rider without a lot of skills ...The zx10 needs a more skilled rider to match the zx14.. I think most here would tell you the zx14 is a great all around bike ..While it may not be the best at everything it does do everthing you ask it too very well ...

I am 200 lbs and everyone thinks I am about 175... Not fat.
I jog and eat healthy. Scuba dive. I have slowed down with the weights. I was as 245 weight lifting. I have shrunk. zx14 moves my ass. I lov the punch. I am 5'11" I have been told I am now shorter after my motor cycke accident. The profile of the zx10 would kill me.
The zx14 does everything I need it to do on the street and 1 day on a drag track.

Just an update for those following along ..
I'm getting a little better with the clutch on this zx10 ...Three trips to the track i have dropped from 6.57 to 6.50 and tonight i got down to 6.40 .... 60 foot times have dropped from 1.75 to 1.71 to tonights 1.68 ....So i'm making some head way .....I'm dropping numbers at about the same rate i did my zx14 back two years ago ...
Mods are lowered and strapped ,Stock gears , pump gas 89 octane and foot shifting... I really need an air shifter , i having problems getting my foot back on the peg just like i did my zx14 ...Some of you will remember back to the early days with my zx14 that i don't clutchless shift like a lot of guys do ...I use the clutch ever shift ...In all my years of riding i have never been able to clutchless shift , not matter how many times i have tried i allways miss gears ... So i just don't try it anymore ..
More to come ...Planned mods are .... 62 inch wheel base , air shifter and the all important Brocks pipe and race map ... They will be installed in that order ...

Oh i should also include this little item ...This zx10s have flys just like the zx14 along with a fly in the exhaust can .... I talked with a few people that race zx10s and they told me pulling the flys really help the low and mid range just like the zx14s .. So i'm going to talk with Brock about making a flys out map like he did for the zx14 .......I also saw where adding a full exhaust added 16 HP over the factory choked cats and pre muffler and that over large thing Mother Kawi calls a muffler ...That's right this thing has two mufflers and two cats ....This 08 zx10 really responds to a full exhaust like our zx14s and maybe more!!! ...Proof of this is Ricky Gadson 08 zx10 at prostar running 9.23 with a killer MPH of 158 with just a Muzzy pipe and NO P/C .. I can't wait till Brock gets one on the dyno and puts his midas touch to work .....

Smokin, a couple of questions to you THINK the 62 inch wheel base will be more helpful on the ZX 10 than the ZX 10..........also, the ZX 10's i raced against seem to like a liitle wheelspin when launched........the 1000's seem to get drive with a little wheelspin vs the 14 that just blows the rear tire away.........do you think there is anything to be gained by clutchless shifting, because i usually use the clutch.
they better beef up the 14 or else soon the ZX 10's will be putting out MORE horsepower.........i know, the 14's put out massive torque.......but i'd love to see a 220 horse factory ZX 14..........you think they will go to 1399 cc in 2010 or so?

I'll try to answer that the best i can ...With the zx14 torq and weight ( my zx14 505 pounds) it will blow the tire off very easy Vs the zx10s low torq ( 80 ) and light weight ( 380 pounds ) will spin the tire but will still pull pretty strong out of the hole .. One thing that i have seen is the 06 and 07 zx10s can 60 foot a a 1.48 and still run the same number as a zx14 with a 1.38 60 foot time .. That is if both bike have the same mods ....The zx10 will most times MPH a bit more that the zx14 but the zx14 will ET a bit better mod for mod ... I do think the zx10 at 62 inches will be more helpfull than a zx14 at 62 ..The zx14 is allready longer to start off with than the zx10 ....Trust me this zx10 needs all the help it can get because of it light weight it is a wheely machine and the zx14 is not ...
On to the clutchless shifting ....What you gain would depend on how slow you are shifting ...If you are pretty good at it the gain well be small ( maybe a 10th of a second ) ...If you suck like me you could gain 2 to 3 tenths with and air shifter ...Everybody is different, some have better skills ..
I like you hope they step up the power on the zx14 in years to come ...I have seen some early dyno numbers on the zx10 with a pipe and we are talking mid 180s on pump gas and that matches what we have been seeing on the zx14s ... Don't forget the zx10 is 125 pounds liter to boot ....I have seen stock motored zx10 run 8.80 to 8.90s and zx14s running 8.70s to 8.80s with the same mods ...So the bikes are pretty close allready ... What makes the zx14 faster and better for drag racing is it much easier to ride fast for someone with lesser skills ...The zx14 is also much better for heavier riders , the extra torq helps with the extra weight .....

look at the zx-10 graph and you can see the fly's open at about 7000 grand........ this coincides with that hard hit your feeling at around 9k...... pull them fly's and move that power down in the rev range....

Smokin congrats on the new bike..A youmg guy rode a 07 10 to the track last year..It was all stk.not lowered or strapped..He tried to make a few passes on it wheelied like crazy..Came and asked me to make a pass on it..That first pass was scary..Wheeelied like crazy..Time was real bad..I then rode it again..His had stock gearing also..I then made another pass..I short shifted first to second before it came up went a 6.42..Can't rmember the mph..Never have seen the kid again..But I know that 07 had some power...I think it went 117 or 18..Good luck with the 10..

I suspect that the lower rpm hp should make a decent increase also after the flies are removed. This thing will be a good package once sorted out.

Smokin how does this 08 model compare to your older ZX10?
How is the clutch holding up? Will it last a season?

Nelson it feels weaker in the mid range and much stronger on the top Vs the 05 zx10 ... That makes it a little harder to go fast at the track .....I have a strong feeling that once i get a pipe on the 08 that all will change ...Riding the 08 zx10 feels much like a turbo bike , no power at first and then way to much power ...It's kind of like a light switch ,either it's on or it's off .... I have about 15 runs on the bike with a few test runs on the return roads and the clutch seems to be working fine .... I'm not sure it will last a full season because you have to slip it so much ....The zx10 clutch is on of the best in the liter bike class but no clutch is going to last long with stock gears and stock wheel base ...
Once i add some gear and wheel base i should get a season out of it ....I hope lol
