Superchargers
Any more news on the superchargers for motorcycle applications?
Triggerman, didn't you have a thread on this a while back?

I've seen a couple of bikes out there DragRacing with superchargers...They are out of control, and not enough R & D to be competitive...
Better off with a turbo with an NLR boost controller

There are a couple of superchargers out there for the ZX14, manufactured overseas that reportedly are putting 220 RWHP and 120 ft lbs of torque. Expensive $$$...they are streetable though. Personally I don't believe there is any real advantage over a turbo other than the lag the turbo's have. The supercharger takes away HP to produce HP, the turbo takes a waste and converts it to HP. I don't want no stinkin belt driving off my crank. Different strokes for different folks.

You're right Kawabunga, there's no beating free horsepower. But with every modification you loose one thing to gain another. So the question is what are you willing to give up for the desired mod. I would much rather give a few peak ponys in order to keep a sweet exhaust note. Besides, I'm not trying to have the fastest bike on the block. And it would have to be a clean installation concealed behind the bodywork to be appealing to me. Like you said, different strokes for different folks.

a turbo isnt exactly a free flowing exhaust. it does rob a bit of hp, but it is just way less than what a blower robs

Richard Albans at TTS has supercharged a ZX-14, also a Triumph Rocket III. The 14 is for sale in the GT Motorcycles Plymouth showroom. Haven't seen the power figures.

KZ, you got that right. I saw The Spiderman in Gainesville last November for the last Prostar race. Those top fuel machines are incredible.
SCZX14SOCAL did they have a picture of the set-up? Do you have a web address? My search engine didn't find it.

Thanks BobC for the link.
I don't like the placement of the supercharger, It destroys the lines of the bike.
Calisuperbikes places them forward of the block in a much better location on the bikes they have installed them on. But I haven;t seen one on a ZX-14 and I haven't heard from anyone who owns one.

Funny part is they are making one for that Butt ugly B-King ....lol.....

It's a shame that the pipe exits the housing backwards and then turns 180 degrees. I sat on the bike and I could feel it on my shin. If that housing could be rotated so the pipe exited forwards under the side cover (but I expect the clutch cover and engine case is in the way) it would be really neat.

Smokin, when I first heard about the Cali guy I e-mailed him and he said he had a photo shoot that would be in 2Wheel Tuner the next month. Needless to say I'm still waiting.
SCZX14SOCAL keep us posted on the install.
