secondary butterflies

Howzit. So far, thanks for all your advise but now I have some new questions.
1. Can anyone offer an explanation on how to go about removing the secondary butterflies?
2. Since for now, I simply cannot afford to purchase an exhaust system, will removing the secondary butterflies do more harm than good?
3. I really like the look of my zx having dual mufflers, does anyone know of a full, performance exhaust system where dual mufflers are used?
Thanks everyone, for any advise you may offer. Happy riding people, all the way from Hawaii.

Until you are ready for a "package" pipe and Pc3 ride her stock.
Pulling those flies will help your midrange but ONLY if you run a Pc3 and map.

The 2 bros slip ons sound awesome for a dual pipe and slip on.! Really deep rumble!
Area P has twin slip ons which sound awesome, are quite affordable.

duals have decent midrange but are about 10 HP short at peak and even more near redline, compared to a good ole 4-1 from orient, ti force, or Brock.

Thanks guys. I just got through reading the article about the TRE and I think I'll just keep my flies for a while. My dealership installed something called a Cobra FI2000 or something but they don't have a dyno so it's just guess work. My next investment will be that power commander and then I'll look into either a full exhaust or some slip-ons. Hey, in the mean time... if I have a TRE installed, and stock exhaust, can anybody suggest what setting I should set this FI2000 at to compensate for the TRE? Thanks guys, you guys are a world of help.

Not unless you're being timed. There will be better power when you map, but the difference isn't much compared to the overall gains with the flies out on 06-07 models. On the 08's, the flies open much sooner and pulling them still gets you more punch, but not to the same extent as the older models. There is a bit more power on the 08's over the 06-07's, but not much on the lower end. You do need to map, because WOT pulls at 3500 run way too lean; dangerously so.

I have the titanium 2 bros. and it looks and sounds great (my opinion) + it fits real well. Dramatic weight savings also! Unfortunately Smokin's right about that Cobra system as its been discussed a number of times on the forum. With the Power Commander, two brothers, flies out and a custom map my torque went from 60 ft. lbs at 3,000 rpm to 83 ft. lbs at 3,000. A real kick in the pants. Enjoy your ZX

About 300 bucks is all you need give or take a few for a power commander. I use stock exhaust and I like it for the most part because I can beat down on it and not disturb the peace / attract the police or incite others to call them. Go right by a cop and they don't even know I was just rodding the bike. Anyway take em out I just use the map from Dynojet that comes from their web site, bike runs fine. It might have some more potential but its good enough for me. Lots of guys admit they have to go easy around town with their loud pipes, but I want to have fun wherever.

No I haven't had it dynoed since the secondaries removed and PCIII so I couldn't give specs I guess I'm too cheap would rather spend money elsewhere like new back tires! Really it runs great I suppose it would be similar to any, for example like on IVANSPERFORMANCE web site, but then I may not have the most power of any 14 but I am not a serious drag racer or one at all. Might change my mind some day and want the most power on the top end. On the street I seem to spend a lot of time in the 3 to 5K rpm range, even in the twisties. Hope that is not too long winded.

i took the flies out and changed the front sprocket to a 16 tooth. it runs great and fast! i didn't feel the need to put a power commander on it. it has enough go for normal folks. :-)

try it, you'll like it.

We have been talking about this for about 2 years... There are more threads than you can imagine on this... It would benefit you to at least look them over. The 06,07 run very lean with the 'flies' pulled.... I believe by those that do this for a living.. they call it, "dangerously lean". I did run one day without a PC but didn't want to chance burning a cylinder. Make in informed decision... read (scan) the 400 pages out there of research people have done. I will also say that as far as the 08's, I believe that the 'threat' is less... but a PC is still worth the $250.00 to make sure that you don't wreck your motor. There are all kinds of 'maps' that are set up for no flies that you can put in there... just a quick word to give you info... what yo udo is your decision and I am not flaming anyone or even questioning them. I just feel that the info is there to be used by all on this Forum... Good Luck and have fun... Welcome aboard Draft...
