Yep, and I think the Dogma took a dump on my Charisma, cuz my 'great idea' to turn the mini van into a party/sex mobile went off like the Seattle Space Needle New Years fireworks... one big dud! lol

I sold my ZX-12R last year. First guy that came out, I told him everything about the bike and that there wasn't going to be a test ride. You'll have to take my word for it. He ended up buying it and still has it.

Shit happens...

No test rides!

If i run a ad in the paper the last words I put after the price is "NO TEST PILOTS!"
when they call me I merely state to them that the deposit (money in full) and the bill of sale are in full effect at the time of the "test ride" and that the bike is sold "as is" with no warranty implied or expressed on behalf of me the seller. The buyer assumes all responsibilities of insurance, acts of god etc.. both buyer and seller sign and date, sign and date. I establish a "gentlemans agreement" that if they hate it after the first ride we tear everything up and thats that (has never happened) most times if they are serious as a heart attack i will meet them at their bank to have the bill of sale notorized. for them to get me cash or a bank check they go for their ride, i wait a few minutes, when they come back and give me the nod of approval, done deal.

A Friend of mine had a bike stolen like that, guy shows up at his house to buy his bike with a brand new Mercury Cougar,he asks to take my friends bike for a ride,my friend hems and haws a lil bit but caves when the guy hands him the keys to the car.Takes the bike around the corner and comes back and says the bike is running a lil shitty,my friend tells him to go around the block again to warm it up.Long story short, guy went around the corner and never came back and left the new Cougar that was stolen from the car dealer at gunpoint.Last bike I sold I told the buyer he could test drive it all he wants...after he pays me WITH CASH !!

Sold a few bikes in my time.

Cash up front. No cheques - all cheques can be cancelled, from what i understand (What happens if you walk out of a bank with a 'payable in cash' cheque and you get home to find you have slipped out of your pocket)? You ring and cancel it....! They might get the money, but you get repaid if you reported it quick enough...

If they drop it, mark it, scratch it, and don't want the bike, then it's "You bend it, you mend it". Then head off to the local cops with the cash in hand and both of you speak to them. At least that way you have GOOD witnesses.

At the end of the day, it's money and you don't want a bike to repair after it, or have it go missing!
Anyone buying a bike knows this unless it's a mobilet (I used to have one of those as well).

Dealers, don't care really as they are insured - just fucks up there premium when these things happen.
