quote: I searched again, and can't find much.
I wanna know what rear tire I can buy that can potentially last 10k miles.
The stock BT-014 lasted 5k....the dunlop I had lasted 2k....the Pirelli diablo stradas lasted 7k....so now I am at a loss of what tire in the size of 190/50/17 will last 10k...
Any ideas would be awesome!!
My stock BT-014 lasted 2300 km, michelin PP-CT2 ~3400 km, and the strada would have made about 5000, but picked up a nail and I was glad to burn the remainder of its sad slippery skin off in a matter of seconds...
Diablo- Great for high miles, good corner cruiser, sucks when pushed hard
oh and check again , mine were KM, not miles....
1600 km per 1000 miles....
suffice to say I ride the piss out a her! LOL
If you don't have to replace a tire every oil change.... your cruising around!

I can't believe anyone can get 10k miles out of a tire..that is amazing and one boring rider..lol
Hell on my '03 636 the rear tire is normally done for between 3000-4000miles and that's all street country road riding with NO burnouts. I don't do burnouts, waste the tire.

No burnouts here either, except to finnish off the tire when down to 5% left.
Actually I make a very concerted effort to prevent spinnage.... not conducive to forward motion or handilly serving spankings! LOL
Just alot of scubbing going on from the whiskey throttle...

I get 10k easy on the 600rr....that's with 3 or 4 track days on the tire.
Unlike most people...I use my bikes as a main source of transportation. I commute 200 miles a day with my bikes and have the occasional track day, and the weekend twisty run.
The chicken strips on my tires are pretty noticeable because 1....I haven't been to a track day in a couple months, and 2...on the way to work there aren't many kneedragging turns (2 to be exact).
I have done track days with my stradas and pulled average track times....it's the one tire I have the easiest time predicting in a turn....I drag knee with no problem.

200 miles a day commuting will rack up mileage and maintain tire tread because of the consitant traveling speed. 10k though is still amazing!
I don't endorse strips either

Yes and Yes
Avon Storms, personal expierance, best tire for the street, sticks and lasts.
Have about 3500 miles on the rear and its about shot, however thats twice as much as the BT-014. Front tire will see over 10,000 miles. I dragrace, so their goes mileage
Conti R.A. personal expierance, on par withte Avons as far as stick, but a little less miles.
Pilot Roads-2, I have been researching this tire for the last six months. 9 out of 10 guys who run them, love them. This will be my next tire

Stock Bridgestones suck, Avons look good but wear bad, like Dunlop Qualifier for street/strip but I'am going with Shinkos this time. They seam to work good on ZX14 and BUSA on the track.

Now we have a new contender, Dunlops Roadsmart. They are claiming better traction than the Avons and Roads-2's. Also very affordable, may give these a try

I'm trying a cheap alternative until i get to san diego and buy a good set of tires. I'll let you know how the Tomahawk T-3 does. I got about 2500 out of my stock tire, but it has definitely done it's fair share of spinning. (just not burnouts) I couldn't find where anyone had tried the T-3's out so i figured that i might as well give them a shot and let everyone know how they perform. I know that a lot of people are skeptical about re-treads, but we run them on a lot of our Fighter jets and our helos. Michelin also uses re-treads for a lot of their car tires. Has anyone tried the Continentals?

You want to extend the mileage of any tire just be religious about maintaining proper pressure. Also, if you got a $10 ass buy a $10 tire. While your at it buy a cheap helmet. It just takes one cage dweller to pull out in front of you to prove my point!

You know what? I'm going to go ahead and call the bullshit flag on the expensive tire statement. ANY tire can be a peice of shit. I had a set of goodyear wrangler MT/R's that were some of the worst performing and shortest lasting tires that i've ever owned. On the other hand, i had a Set of Mastercraft Courser M/T's that performed 10x better and lasted. I agree 100% about watching your pressure though. Some of the cheaper tires might perform as well as the more expensive ones but it doesn't mean that they're not safe. Some people are just too closed minded to realize that more expensive doesn't always mean better. Also, in case you don't remember... Maxxis used to be a Cheap brand, and Shinko is still a cheap brand. How many people run Shinko's on drag bikes that are making 200hp or more? That's what i though.
Sorry about the rant, but i'm tired of people talking shit about cheaper parts just because they would "never try them".

I have 6500 miles on Bridgestone Battlax BT020R rear tire with .070" inches left. Started with .170" inchs. This is not with alot of aggressive riding.

Maybe I wasn't eloquent enough in my explenation concerning cheap tires. I've used too many brands to name from Conti's to Metzlers and I'm always looking for a deal. I raced Bridgestones when everybody said you have to run Michelins if you want to win. I guess I should give the trophies back. My point was don't compromise your safety to save a few dollars, do a little research and spend what it takes to be safe because you might only get once chance.
