Long Lasting tires for the ZX-14

I searched again, and can't find much.

I wanna know what rear tire I can buy that can potentially last 10k miles.

The stock BT-014 lasted 5k....the dunlop I had lasted 2k....the Pirelli diablo stradas lasted 7k....so now I am at a loss of what tire in the size of 190/50/17 will last 10k...

Any ideas would be awesome!!

All jokes aside; has anyone used the new Pilot Road 2s(Not Pilot Power 2CTs)?

PILOT ROAD 2

Pilot Road 2 are a fantastic road tyre. Not sure they will last 10k but 6-7. Superb in the wet excellent feedback and the best thing is they keep their profile They are not a track day tyre just the best road tyre I have ridden on. My girl friend has them on her R1 and has done a track day with no problems.

With that said...it makes my pirelli diablo stradas a better deal...they get 7k easily and handle like a dream --- also are cheaper than the michellins....but since I see myself using the center more than anything, I will sacrifice some handling for longevity.

Try a shinko 005...I can't vouch for the handling but it has a thick carcass, and it's cheap.

Yep fellas, a really nice writeup actually by a road racer who tested them on the track, too. I would go Pilot Road 2 if I were you!

PS: you want to go 10k on a set of tires??? Buy a Gold Wing. The 14 obviously aint for you! lol

Sorry sticks but i get no where near 10 grand on my goldwing tires about 6..But i dont replace them when the tread is gone i replace them when the profile is smoked or when you can feel it in the corners..I only have 836 miles on my 14 because of the freaking crazy snow storm..5' and counting in my yard..But on my GSXR i get maybe 3 grand and the tires are smoked from heat cycles..Just a part of owning bikes if you want them to perform gotta have new tires...But no matter what you buy get them now and buy 3 or 4 sets because there about to go up and up and up..Oil prices ya know..BT014 at local shop 239 bucks for the rear...I get mine on-line at discount motorcycle tires..

Use the same place to buy them Jeff. And you're right, once the profile is shot I cant stand using them. I, too, have run into that heat cycle problem. The roads I run hard on are generally only twisty for JUST enough time to heat the tires to full boil. Then back to legal speeds. Causes the more hardcore tires to heat cycle and get really greasy while there is still good tread left. Thats where being the cheap bastard I am becomes annoying. I'll still ride them till they are toast, but will skip the fun stuff until the new rubber is on. Usually will just ride it to work a few weeks (52 miles each way).

The type of bike doesn't really have THAT drastic of an affect on the treadlife. I have the same riding style on both my 600 and my 14. The difference with the 14 is that it is more fun to go WOT. Other than that, the tires do the same mileage. But since the 14 is heavier, I figure I can get away with a harder compound....I just don't know what tire to go with.

The type of bike combined with the way its used makes all the difference Butter. If you have a Gold Wing, you arent going to be rappin it up at WOT are you? (Jeff stay out of this lol)

My personal experience, btw, shows that the less powerful bike will be harder on fronts that the more powerful bike, but of course, vice versa on rears. And as everyone on the 14 side will tell you, the power of the 14 just destroys rear tires. I expect to get 6,000 out of my front tire, but only 3,000 out of the rear. My TL1000R got 4k out of the front, but only 3k out of the rear (pilot powers).

Oh well, to each his own. I hate pushy people who try to tell you what tires/brakes/do-dads to use, so I'll stop before I have to punch myself...

diablo strada's will wear double any pure sport tire, but have alot of slicon, and therefor are quite slippery until warmed up, and slippery on cool days below 65 F.

I run stradas on my 600 and NEVER once ran into that issue. No slippage and they warm up QUICK.

Hey Butter, how about snapping a close up pic of your front and rear tires? I'll tell you how your tires are performing, and how hard / often you push it by there wear patterns.

Strada's suck for anybody who pushes there tires hard in the corners. BUT: if you just ride it normally, most tires will perform ably. Just be warned: Claiming no slippage and never having a traction problem without ever pushing them hard enough to really know might just lead someone down the wrong path, putting a hard high mileage tire somewhere a grippier tire should be. We all know how that turns out

I was able to get 10k miles on Bridgestone BT020 tires on my ZX-12R. I was no longer pushing myself when I was on the 020s, but I didn't have pussy strips, either.

lez see yur chiken bands...

I know more ppl who will agree, then disagree with me.
If you push em hard they let go and not so progressively.

Its a sport tour tire, don't even waste a second stating they are like a pilot power or the like...
