Drag Racing Gearing
I weigh about 195lbs suited. What would you recommend on gearing for the 1/4. I was thinking about one down in the front and leave the back alone. What do you guys think??

Depends on wheelbase and abilities.
Gadson runs 16/42 I beleive...
depends on track conditions and 60ft, as an extra unnecessary shift will cost you at the backend

Spyder, I'm in the same boat as you right now... I'm looking to make a few mods also and dropping to a 16t in the front without changing the rear just yet to see how it feels will probably be where I start at first. I want to install a set of swingarm extensions, but I'd like to set the wheelbase near the shortest setting (2.5" to 3.0") if the extensions allow for this setting. Does anyone know for sure what the shortest setting is on some of the extensions that are available? My reason for the mods is not for all out drag racing since I spend most of my time riding on the street, but I want to be able to roll on in 2nd gear without looking at the sky every time. Please, others chime in if I'm wrong but I'm wanting to wake the bike up a bit in the mid-range area but also keep the power on the ground. And no, the flies on my 06 are still in... I'm wanting to have a map for my "Qwick Pipes" available before I pull them. I've rode Silver08's 14 with the Alien pipe & map (hence the reason for the extensions for sure), so I've got a real good idea of how it's going to feel without the flies. Any other ideas from you guys other than the 16t front, flies removed and a mild extension to the wheelbase? Also, inputs on an air filter for daily driving with this setup. Thanks, Qwick

Qwick,
Most of the bolt-on extensions begin at 2" and go to 6,7,or 8 inches. There are several types on the market. You can start with SpencerCycle and Roaring Toyz to name just a couple. Hope this helps!

Qwick, I agree with Red1 on the extensions. I just order some from roaring toys for $312 and some change and they range from 2" to 8". Wheelie, are you sure that gearing is not too much, the track I race on isnt exactly the best and I would be afraid of wheel spin. What do you think.

Hi Kevin!
When you lower the frt and rear 1" the bike will already become noticibly less wheelie prone. Mine with the smeg flies out and 16/41 grs and lowered 1" would not stand straight up anymore. Mostly removing the flies will be a big benefit. Its the wallop at 6000 rpm which makes it stand up more than anything.
Will still lift, but no more 12:00!

Oh and unless you guys are airshifting, and stretched beyond 6" good luck with anything lower than 16/43....
Brock, Gadson, or any other stock wheelbase never ran gears that low!

Should have said would not 12:00 in 2nd gear anymore.... always have had to shortshift 1st gear until I stretched it, now I have to watch the rev limiter in 1st.....
