This is more for land speed racing where the track is not prepped. My data aquisition is showing that i have the wheel speed varying by more than 10 mph , even at speeds over 180, with the nitrous.
My car also has the same issue and I had to add down force on the rear to get any traction at all. Since I run my 14 naked and I dont think there is any way to add down force, I was looking at improving traction. I did put on swingarm extensions since the bike wheelies too much already and I think that is only going happen more often.
I also see a fair amount of wheel spin on the street . I started looking real hard at that after an unexpected 3rd gear wheelie at the track. The same setup wouldn't wheelie in 2nd on the street due to the wheel spin.
so back to the original question , has any one tried this ?
Roy
Why don't you guys actually read the original question before you start in with all of your closed minded banter. For going in a straight line on an unprepared surface or where traction is an issue, will the tire work better? MOST LIKELY, but all the guy can do is try it. A larger footprint is going to give better traction PERIOD. That being said, i agree that it shouldn't be done on the street because of the greater lean angles that a sportbike takes compared to a big cruiser. Most likely you're going to have problems finding a tire the right size for your bike with a speed rating high enouh also. Especially if you're doing any kind of land speed racing.

NHRA Prostock use a mickey thompson car tire from what I know. They run low 7's and high 6's though.

I would be concerned with fitment of a car tire on the bike wheel ........or mods for mounting a car wheel on the bike.

I had no problem getting a205/45/17 BFGoodrich on a bike rim. I did not loose much on the mph side , going 143 mph in the 1/4 even with a tire that was 10 lbs heavier. I ran at the rock with a +7 swingarm and had alot ot wheel spin so I shortened up the swingarm to a +4 and it hooks much better on my launch pad
I think that the land speed stuff at 1 mile is less sensitive to the weight issues of the tire than on the quater mile accelleration. I think the real issue is the lift created on a bike going 200 mph and the smaller contact patch of a bike tire. A soft compound bike tire will not go too far on the surface at maxton, and this car tire is really taking some abuse on my test track.
I am hoping to try it in April if the tech guys let me run it.

Feels MUCH more stable on all surfaces.
No waffling at all.
That's my $166.72-worth (including installation) on the 'car-tire-on-a-bike' matter.
I put 4 pix of the tire on the bike in the Photos section here:

No BS here ,, I did run the event at Maxton last weekend. the naked zx14 went 188 on the car tire with a 12 mph headwind. The record I set last year was 189 with the bike tire.

A friend of mine is putting a goodyear car tire on his rocket3. I think it has 2300cc's and he does need to hook up better. His friends on the rocket3 site say for a big bike they need it and like it. Just have to get use to cornering i guess. My 2 Cents!

Do they make car tires that small for bikes that are rated for the speeds our bikes produce?
I know the Z06 tires would be, but those are too big to fit on our bike rims.

i used a BFGoodrich KDW drag radial 205/45/17. It is Y rated , so I think it is higher than the motorcycle tires
