There is a ton of info out there but any good motorcycle oil will be fine. I don't endorse but quite honestly think there is very little difference between regular full syn and moto full syn. That being said I use Castrol R4 full syn.

I run Castrol Syntec 10-W30...
one recomendation is to run standard oil for the break in period... the rings need to seat with the cylinder walls... and for that to happen there needs to be a little wear between the two... if you run synthetic oil, the oil is too slippery for the proper seating to occure and you will loose a small amount of compression and bHp...
I read an artical on "Blast" breakin's by Motoman and he basically says all that first 1000 miles below 3800 RPM and next 5000 below 5000 RPM is bull... get the engine started and TOTALLY warmed up, get on the track and wack it hard.... then slam the throttle closed, then wack it hard, then slam closed.... half a dozen to a dozen times... and your rings are seated, and seated better then any other way. Perfect seated rings means more compression, means more bHp

Hi all, new to the forum here, I just picked up a new 2007 ZX-14 the other day, and I am currently following Motoman's advice on break in, however I dont run it up to redline, only about 6000 rpm, and only a few times. Mainly I just try to accelerate briskly, modulate throttle and go through the gears. Motoman says to change oil after the first 20 or 30 miles to non synthetic 10w-40 CAR oil, then again at 1500 or so miles to whatever you like, I plan on changing to full synthetic, probably Motul oil or something similar. I understand why he recommends non synthetic for the first oil change, I would like to get some feedback on why CAR oil, and not motorcycle oil. Any ideas?

Any synthetic fine as long as it doesnt have any of those Energy saving molecules or whatever they are called. And by the way Brock no longer recommends the mobil 1 5w-30 cause they added those energy saving molecules

I did too...Car oil does not have the additives for the transmission in it. (High shear strength)
So... it allows better break in...ie. lapping to take place. That is all done pretty quickly. Change a new bike oil early and often..I did @ 50 / 200 / 1000 with car oil and 3000 with Mobil one. ( it get all the little shavings out / normal)
After that every 3000 with Mobil one. Just did the valves and the cams look mint.
