ZX14 motor in a racecar!! Guys,
I am swapping my ZX12 motor in my RACECAR for a ZX14 unit.
1. Re. exhaust, can anyone give me any advise whether or not to run an open exhaust?? (thats how i used to run the ZX12 motor but then again i never tried it with a can on so I dont really know if I was loosing power or not!
I race the car in hillclimbs and sprints which means steep hills and tight corners, therefore torque and throttle responce are extreemely important!
2. Since the airbox of this bike is part of the frame I have always run it without an airbox, adjusting the fuel map on the power commander as well as we could due to the fact that we cant put it on the dyno since the engine is in a car!! Is airbox and ram-air a definite must???
I am all the way from Malta by the way, which is a small island below Italy.

Thats awesome !!
You dont need to have an airbox, individual stacks will work fine. And an open exhaust will dont hurt your motor if things are tuned properly, it will hurt your throttle response and your torque though. You would have to be reving to the very end of your RPM range to feel any improvement. So think some sort of can would help. A wibe-band of some kinda would also help out quite a bit !!

Yep I'm using a muzzys clutch basket and yes I was just dabbing the clutch to shift up the gears there (naughty....)!!
Up untill now I havent actually had any problems with the clutch and its the standard unit other than the basket.... Speeds were probably about 120/125 mph max. on that road in the video.
Well, I'm still looking actually.....are there any major differences between the 06 & the 07 models, engine wise?????

No, ZERO difference in the engine between 06 & 07.
Food for thought, a Pingle electric shift would be pretty awesome !!
(B/C i was thinking about doing the exact thing you are doing, i was going to utilize my pingle. Shifts both up AND down....though i dont know if your sanctioning body would allow that.)

Well, most I would be allowed to use is a quickshifter to have flat out up changes, since the regulations dont permit air shifters or electronic.....gear change has to be completely manual!!
Another thing...what would you guys suggest me to run with the ZX14 motor,,flies out? or a G-pack, Gipro, TRE whatever??

BAH. Build something like John has; you have two rear tires and you will weigh substainly less then the T-Rex. I think the concept is cool, but it is nothing more then a rich kids toy.

pull the flies buy a pc3 mapped for a sidewinder and you should be set, tell them if you want to run pump gas or race gas when you buy the pc 3...you could also use something like a mps kill box just so you can blip the throttle by hand.....you also might consider a lock-up with the extra weight of the car....clutchs will last alot longer with one..

i was think more of a one hand shift type deal, You could mount a button on the shifter and blip it all at one time with no wasted motion. Or you could mount a button on the floor and blip it with your foot and just hold slight pressure on the shifter, either way would take a hell of alot less time than pushing in and out the clutch....every second counts. I use the MPS box on my 14 where it's hooked to the horn button. When/if i run out of air in the shifter all you have to do is hold slight pressure on the shift lever and hit the button and the bike pops into the next gear.
The mps box just kills the ignition for a set amount of time to pop it into the next gear. You use a small screwdriver to adjust how much kill time you want. When you hear dragbikes go down the track and you hear them pop when they shift, they have the kill time set to long and it's letting gas build up in the cyl and not ignite....

plus... you could keep your left foot on the brake with out worrying about doing heel-toe manuvers....the car would basically be a "semi-automatic" after you let the clutch out....

Thanks for the info. guys......actually I drove a car fitted with the dynojet quickshifter recently and was siutably impressed......clutchless shifting without letting your foot off the gas....and the good part is that its attached to the gear lever so it senses the slightest movement straight away.
I think I'll have to go for one of those.....theres no way you can shift that fast completely manually I dont think!!
