Flies should probably come out on the 08 14...
Well, in regards to the way the bike was "fixed" in 08, I now believe there's still more to be had by removing the flies. I had described in another thread what I felt/feel when I ride the bike, which is hard pull down low and in the mid's. It is obviously way harder pulling than the "fly's-in" 06/07 model, probably enough for most of us...but...
That being said, I know that the flies are staying closed or almost fully closed under 2800- 3K, so there's more power to get by removing them. I have to lift the tank and open the airbox to check the status of the flies at lower RPM's, but I more than suspect I'm right, just by what I feel. Don't get me wrong; there's a lot of power with the flies in; just that there's more to be had by removing them completely. I also believe that because of the new mapping with the flies partially open at lower RPM's, there'd be no need for a PC3 to fix a lean condition. It will be leaner than it is now if I remove them, but not dramatically.
This bike pulls harder than the previous models, but it's not only the fles. it's the whole exhaust, injector & headwork thing they did that does it. The bike rocks!!

If you're drag racing, wouldn't you normally take off above 3k anyways?
And on the street, why would you be below 3k?
Sounds like they got it right this time so nobody has to mess with it.

did you guys read the write-up in cycle world about it? of course the hayabusa got 4 pages of coverage and the ZX14 got 1/2 page text and the other half page photos.
but anyway, they mentioned "enlarged secondary air ports" (I think this means remove the flies) :P
they also mentioned widened injector spray angle, re-profiled pistons, smoothed intake porting

They did, but there is more to be had by removing them; not huge, but a lot more than say -- changing the pipes. It's more in the way they are managing them, again, smoother than with them out I'd bet -- and much more power on demand, but there's still some delay at lower RPM's until they wind up. It's something most of us could live with, but it only takes 30 minutes to pull the flies and get even more, so why not? It's unlikely that you'd even need a PC3 anyway...
I don't drag race but I want more power delivery in the streets..
FTS -- it's a no-brainer to "mess with it"...not like we haven't already done this before eh? This would be my fourth bike where I remove the flies...

Can you Blame cycle world for only showing one picture of that ugly ass 14 and I strictly mean color, There magizine sales would dropped to an all time low with more pictures of that bike. there color or paint guy needs rehab for his drug addiction. All they would had to do was make a lime green and I would have really thought about an 08 14.

The ZX-14 and the Busa keep giving us stuff that need to grow on us before we will admit to liking it. The George Foreman grills, the weird rear end, white paint with flames, and now black with flames... but in time it always comes down to who's at the end first of that long straight line.

Even though this thread started with 'flies out' -- it did have a mention of ZX-14 colors.
And I agree, if '08 had hi-viz color (like bright orange/green/red/yellow) -- i would love it,
and there would be any question where to drop 13K of hard earned (and borrowed) cash.
I would prefer -- Yellow (just like they have on this year's 6R) with yellow weels.
again sorry for 'out of topic' comment.
