There is not a need to run 90 or better aka plus or super.

Sigma...If your bike is 'pinging' when you are riding, (normally noticable under power in the higher gears...) then you should use a higher octane rated fuel. The reason that Kawi suggests 92 or above is so you don't wreck the motor with the fuel igniting earlier than the spark initiates. If your bike is hot... and you are running a lower octane, the fuel is going to spontaniously cumbust, and then the spark will ignite but there is not as much fuel left... The cylinder, when the spark goes, has used up much of the fuel already.. and therefore the walls will start to burn. The higher the octane, the harder it is to ignite. Therefore if yo urun 92 octane, the fuel will be more 'stable'. If you have a high compression engine, the fuel may also ignite 'early'... so you will want a higher octane fuel. If you are riding a stock zx14, and it is not hot out, you should be able to run the 87 or 89 octane fuel. If you notice the dieseling, then you should get a higher octane fuel. I hope this helps you out. I am in Wisconsin... and much of the year I run the 89. When it is hot and I may be in traffic, I usually will run a higher octane, like 92. (I am in no way an authority on this.. but it is the simple principle.)

I used 87 on the dyno and always use it unless it is really hot out and I plan to torture the bike a bit.......

The lower the octane you can safely run the more power you will make lower octane=power

Winter fuels have lower flash points due to more butane and some oxygen additives...
I run 89 all summer but early spring and in the fall I run 92 .
I Just find the change in seasonal fuel to be too unreliable to stave off ping.
