Oil Leaks on 2006 14's

I know that a few of you guys had the oil leak located near the valve cover on the left front of the motor. Well now that one of our 14's is out of the 12 month warranty it has started the oil leak. Went to the dealer and they said that Kawi would not cover it since it has been over 12 months since the purchase date. I'll be calling Kawi myself tomorrow to find out what they're going to do about it. If you guys who had the same problem and had it covered by Kawi under warranty wouldn't mind, could you respond back with the dealerships name, city and date that you had your repairs done. (Not your names) This way I can present my case to Kawasaki that this is a known problem with the oil leak and that they should cover the cost to repair this on our bike and any other 14 in the future... no matter if it's out of their 12 month warranty window. Oh, and the bike only has 4,200 miles on it. This really should have gone out as a recall notice on all the 06 models. And maybe if enough of you guys respond back and I explain this to Kawi, hopefully they'll see that this is an undeniable problem that constitutes consideration for a recall before one of our members lays down their bike due to a oil soaked rear tire.
Thanks

I think I was one of the first to do a write-up on this early last year......on a diff site.

They can't fix it if they don't do something diff. I ended up putting a very thin washer under the bolts....solved. Even heavy Permatex use did not stop it w/o the washers.

It takes a few mins and a few cents.......

Found one of the old pics

The oil puddles on the left part of the head when you park the bike and it leans left. Eventually it will get through if the seal is weak.

Thanks, I'll give the washer idea a try and see if it does the trick. I was wondering if Kawi changed something with the bolts for 07, cause I don't recall anyone posting this type of oil leak problem other than with the 06 models.

I would call Kawi, even if the warranty ran out sometimes they will cover it. A buddy of mine has a 10r and the trans stuck in 5th gear recently and his warranty just ran out....the dealer wouldn't do anything but he called Kawi and they are fixin it..

I just dropped off my 2006 ZX14 with the same oil leak, i purchased an extended warranty with mine so we will see what happens. The dealer said it should be covered....then he jokingly said if not, we will put a 2008 ZX14 motor in it.

The dealer is: Fox's Kawasaki/Suzuki, Roxboro, NC

ZXP, Thanks for responding with the dealership info. How many miles does your 14 have on it? Our other 06 14 has 2,700 miles on it, but no leaks so far.

Another bit of info on the 06's... My wife's 14 (with the leak) is an early release 2006. Her VIN ends in the 700's... My 14 w/out leak is one of the later released for 06's and has a VIN that ends in the 9,000's. So maybe Kawi caught the problem shortly after releasing the bike in the spring of 06. Stevewfl also had a leak problem and I believe that he had one of the first 14's in Florida.

Here's the deal, its a simple fix. At the end of my thread rant there is a complete list of parts. replace with these, oil leak done, zero BS. I bumped my thread but here is the link:

Steve, I wrote down all the part numbers when you last posted. Simple fix yes, but I believe that Kawi should foot the bill on parts & labor, bottom line! So far by comparing the VIN's it appears that the reported oil leaks have occurred on the early released 2006 models. Maybe with this info it may help other 14 owners who may experience this problem after their factory warranty runs out.

Steve, Do you remember what your mileage was when you had this problem? And is your VIN a higher or lower number than hers (700's)? Thanks

My is #8315....I think.

Forget the dealer - waste of time and risk to the bike(if they are the avg techs). It takes minutes and a washer to stop the leak.......

I went to a Kawasaki dealership in Texas and they had two 08' ZX14's that had what appeared to be an oil leak by the two bolts behind the cylinder on the right side of the bike....On BRAND new bikes on the showroom floor...

I reported it on another website to ask if it was a probblem area because I was thinking about getting one and folks acted like I made it up...Heck who wants to buy a bike that's leaking oil right on the showroom floor ?

So my wife and I went to a different dealership today and saw an 08' silver and the LE and they had oil coming from the same spot...I've seen 4 brand new 08' ZX14's with what looks like an oil leak coming from the two bolts behind the cylinder...

I made it a point to look at the 07's that were on the floor and none of them had oil in that spot...But every 08' I've seen did..

It was about 2000 miles give or take a few. Not sure of VIN the bike is out on a trailer I just got from Deal's Gap to Hickory NC where I'm gonna bust some more twisties around here, Wilkesbor, and Blowing Rock. Please send me a reminder PM and I'll check it for you when I get home to FL this week..Also If you'll remind me I should still have the paperwork with ALL the details

Just got my bike back from the shop, rode only a couple of miles....oil leak seems to be fixed..Time will tell. Dealer said I was the first in my area for a head gasket oil leak. They also had a silver and limited edition on the floor, I must say, the limited looks better in person. I'll stay with the "Black Knite" anytime. All was paid by Kawasaki!

My bike was among the very first ones sold in FL.

The oil leak may come back. Mine happened many times. The parts appear to fix it sure, but I think the root of the problem may be deeper than gaskets and such because mine happened over and over.

One note about this left side leak on my bike is it was very very minor. As I was riding I would notice a quick smell and wonder if someone's clutch or brakes wear burning a little. Then I would notice a tiny spot of oil on the left side fairing. I'm confident it didn'y leak all the time, just spurt a shot out once in a blue moon. On that note and since it happned again recently, I'm not sure if the parts were really correcting it or not or if it was a random squirt because the head didn't line up exact or such sillyness.

You guys keep us posted going forward-

Here we go again, The BEAST is leaking oil again. Guess I better start making arrangements to sell it and get something new. I've only owned Kawasaki's. The dealer said bring it back and we will fix it no matter how many times it takes, it's winter now, do i sit around with the BEAST in the shop during the summer or take my chances with a new bike????????

Is the valve cover gasket one piece? Or does it have cams seals too. I have not taken the valve cover off, bc i have not had any problems. I have about 3700 miles on it so far.
