STUCK IN 4th!!!!!!!!!!!
I was out in Louisiana this weekend and raced a friend of mines 14 against another 14 whose rider is pretty good and well known in the area. Anyway we made four passes. On the last pass, I got the jump as we both got a good start and had him by about a bike. I couldn't see him in the mirror or next to me but could hear he was right there.
Shift to fourth as I was still in front and Thats When It Happened. It barely caught the cog for fourth and then jumped out and back in very violently. (This happened real quick) After that he steadily walked by me. Slowing down, I noticed that I could not shift up or down out of fourth.
After many curse words I start to cruise home and about 3 miles down the road the bike started to shift again. Didn't act up anymore but I didn't run it that hard again.
Does anyone have any idea what happened or may be going on? Is this an issue that will only get worse? Has anyone else had this issue? I'd hate to have to purchase a trans setup and pay for it to get repaired.....I was on the bike when it happened.
Would have been a nice win in the books had that not happen.

Sounds like a fork problem but it could have just gotten stuck or misaligned. I am not an expert on Transmission but it could be that i think. Check your oil too.

do you have an air Shifter and if so do you make it a habit of using the air shifter to shift at low RPM's

If you did use it low speeds what adverse effects does it cause??

No Air Shifter.....all foot shifts. As for mods....muzzy pipe, no flies, pcIII, 6" over.
My friend did just change the clutches and oil. Clutch did feel different from the last time I rode the bike. I purposely bleed the system before going to run. He used 10W-40 Kaw oil.
Oh and the gears will make a pretty good clack and sometimes grind as it goes into first from nuetral. I asked if he double checked everything and he said yes.
I know that the R1 and GSXR1000 have different size kevlar at certain spots in the basket but I havent changed ones on the 14 yet. Could he have put them in worng and its causing the clutch to not fully disengage.
The guy I raced does have an air shiter but he said his has missed a shift or hung but never like the big I was on. I just knew I was coming out of pocket with some cash for the fix. Is the return spring not that strong?

using an air shifter at low speeds and RPM can cause you to bend the forks(trany forks) not the front forks LOL

Check the snap ring behind the shift lever that holds the shift rod inplace, it can come out of the groove under hard shifting (racing) and allow the shift rod to move away from the shift drum which will not allow you to get any gears, I machined the groove deeper on mine to eliminate the problem.
