I'v been hearing that the Busa guys are not too happy with the clutch on the new Busa...They didnt change the clutch...You still need the clutch mod for it...What good is that???

Rick it makes no difference to the Busa guys ...Even if they have to have a clutch mod $$$$ and a upper tripple tree$$$$$ to drop the front end and still need steel braided brake lines $$$$ to stop the bike it's still a better bike , cheaper bike and faster than the zx14 ...I guess all the engine vibs from 4000 to 7000 makes them forget that..

And if the busa has a weak clutch, the mainstream magazines will do the mod before any type of comparison. I would like to see a stock to stock and then a mod to mod comparison.

If there is only 1 hp difference stock. Kaw will blow the busa away with pipe and pc.
No 4 stroke responds to a pipe like a kaw.
Get within 5 hp and it's all rider on the track to all but the top riders.

all this clutch talk of "no change" on the busa, but there is info around that it has a slipper clutch. not that drag racers like that aspect anyway.... but if they changed to slipper clutch how do you know its still "weak" like the old busa clutch

my point is I can't believe they wouldn't correct the weak clutch problem that everyone and their mother knew about on the old busa....

Agreed they should have fixed the clutch. I think people have been misreading the term back torque limiter to mean slipper when this is just the spring set-up on the inner-most hub that is designed to prevent chattering. It is not a big or expensive mod to swap this out, but the factory should have addressed it.

i read on the psychobike site that richard ran an 9.32 with the strap, clutch mode and the rear lowered. The question is if he can run that time on a stock 14 with the same mods. Lee what where some of your times with it stock.

The old busa will never be in the same class as the 14. Time to let that one go. Move on the 08 busa

I never tested my mine that way .... I did go low 9.40s with a Muzzy pipe lowered and strapped ..NO p/c, pump gas, flys in place and stock gears ...I only went to the track with that combo one time and got 3 runs in that day. Remember at that time the bike was new to me and i had very little seat time and that was also in the Summer heat ... At Atco where Richard ran the 9.32 the air was killer good and it was reported to be a DA of 200 feet below sea level ...

I hope when more tests come out it will be stone stock 08 busa Vs stone stock 08 zx14 .. It's to hard to compair these bikes if they don't have the same track, mods and rider ..Smokin...

Amen to that. I found the same scenario with my busa compared to the kawa.

With Suzuki having launched a heavily reworked Hayabusa for 2008, Kawasaki couldn't possibly do nothing about it. So we have the 2008 ZZR1400, and while it looks more or less the same as before, Kawasaki say they've made small, but significant changes everywhere, improving the bike significantly.

To begin with, there's the ZZR1400's 190bhp, 1352cc, DOHC inline-four, which is now fully compliant with Euro III emissions regulations. Kawasaki claim that the engine's new intake ports and fine-atomising fuel injectors reduce mechanical noise and help boost power throughout the rev range. (This is supposed to take care of some riders' complaints that at lower speeds, the ZZR1400 didn't feel like a 190bhp, 1400cc sportsbike.) Also, a third honeycomb catalyzer has now been added in the exhaust collector, and this joins the two catalyzers already present in each silencer.

The ZZR1400's chassis has also been revised - the aluminum monocoque is now die cast (rather than gravity cast) for reduced weight and increased stiffness. In keeping with the bike's hyper sports-tourer positioning, ergonomics have been further refined for long-distance riding. And with a price tag of US$11,999 the big Ninja remains an excellent value for money proposition.

you got a heavier bike at a heavier price too. I like my limited production pornstar nipple red '06 bike more and more as I read the critics views on both the new busa and 14.

9.32 with stock pipes is gettin done. Although Rickey went 30's
with the 2006 ZX14 with stock pipes as well at this same track.
That busa is gonna give these ZX14's trouble.
The original busa clutch 99-01 was corrected in 2002
and all the years were fine no clutch mod needed to launch the bike.

BTW,
How many different companies produce a clutch mod?
Maybe Suzuki will correct the clutch in two years.

Nelson its common knowledge among busa owners that the '05's had clutch/tranny probs. Everyone I know has had there's worked, including these two:

Richard, since you rode both, the 14 and the new busa, what is your UNOPINIONATED verdict? No BS!

Richard - " I havent ridden a 2008 zx14 yet and they DID infact make changes so i kinda have to hold judgement. but the 2008 busa is slightly quicker than the 06-07 zx14. "

also Richard said;
Quote (richard gadson @ Oct. 01 2007 10:58 am)
" i went a 9.32 with the back lowered and a clutch mod at 150.95 mph. the front was stock height and we pulled the strap on it. it was only my third pass "

So this was strapped lowered and clutch mod?

"yes sir!!! yes brock did go a 9.60 something at almost 149mph and he is pushing 200 lbs suited. the diary should be out soon!!"

'08 Busa at Atco Dragway last weekend.....

Guys:

Just passing on a bit of info for this debate. Last Sunday afternoon an '08 Busa (lowered, stock exhaust) went 9.30 @ 151 MPH at Atco dragway in New Jersey. I don't know the rider weight particulars or whether it had a clutch mod. I suspect that once Brock gets his "package" for it sorted that it will be "interesting". That said, I expect that Smokin and the rest the 1/4 "pros" will be up to the challenge.

Ride Safe...

In the end it comes down to the one immeasureable variable...the rider.

The rider makes ALL the difference, a great rider can overcome a large hp/handling deficet and a poor rider on the FASTEST machine is just plain useless, and dangerous (SQUID TYPES)...

Bottom line...more $$$$$ = MOre HP

and Axiom 1, there will always be someoen faster, quicker, cleaner, sweeter...

Enjoy your ride, and take pride in your ride..

Win or lose, its who gets to ride the longest (over time)

Did anyone say about what it took for the busa to run 30's with richard. what kinda fuel? was the chain stretched to max on the stock arm? did they change sprockets? what about lighter tires? or even ceramic bearings? man its so many tricks that the pro guys can benefit from its unreal. thay are good enough to show the difference in each mod. the busa lovers will never own that the kaws are what they are. i go to the track all the time with my old 2000 zx12 and beat down busas with 200 and more cc's more than me. when it was new in the beginning it was close. when you bolt on mods ( which most owners will do) thw kawasaki will be in front. when it comes to aftermarket motorwork then thats where the field went south for kawaski, due to a lot reasons. one big reason I like to chuckle with is they needed all that aftermarket developement to get in front of kawasaki anyway.

thats what they said to get into the 70's. we talkin a half sec. now, thats a long way for three passes with a pro like richard, who rides all types of bikes, and is very familiar with the busa and clutch issue. the difference between him and Brock is at least 50 lbs. less than .3 diff. is practical in a 1/4.
