brocks' exhaust question
I recently attended a car show that had small booths with motorcycle shops advertising. I noticed a ZX-14 was parked with someone standing beside it. The man told me of his modifications. He said that prior to having the muzzy m10 setup on his motorcycle, he had the brocks smeg setup. His reasons for switching to a different exhaust system was because he was having problems with the headers always heating up so hot. When the headers would heat up they would burn a hole through his oil filter. The headers are placed real close to the oil filter and the headers are very big is how he explained it. This would cause him to leak oil all over the place. After changing to the muzzy m10 from the brocks setup, he also claims that he feels more power now then he did before. Does anyone else have any related issues to this one? I am interested in knowing more about the situation before I install anything on my own motorcycle. I also wanted to know if the generation 3 models of brocks setups would have the same issue or the similar header situation. Just wanted to share with my friends over here on the site. Thank You.

Bull fuggin' SHIAT. That guy is lying out of his ass and is a sole Muzzy lover or something. I have a Brock SMEG on my '06 and "NEVER" had those stupid issues and my neighbor has a '07 ZX-14 with the M10 kit and it doesn't run any harder than my bike at all.
Your best bet is to get the Brock SMEG or new ALIEN head kit and hang the heck on. That was a funny story though. LOL

Sounds like a B.S. story to me!!! Power output from the Brocks to the Muzzy should be within a few hp of each other. Depending on the map. I wouldnt think it would be enough to "feel".
I have the Brocks Gen 3 system and it is quite aways from the oil filter. As far as I know it is the same header as the smeg. There is plenty of room for changing the oil filter without even touching the header pipe. It is very nice to change the filter and not get ANY oil on your bike, or pipe. I have no experience with the Muzzy but I am sure it is very similar to the Brocks
How would you burn a hole in a oil filter even if it was touching the filter????

True. Just wanted to share with you guys what someone else had stated. There is no doubt in my mind that Brocks is a well developed setup. In fact that is exactly what I wanted to buy. I just wanted to know if anyone else had similar issues. For me it's between the alien head or gen 3 titanium. Just can't make up my mind.

I have not heard what the alien head sounds like. Probably about like a smeg.
I have the gen 3 carbon. perfect sound for me, loud when ya get on it but quite for around town.

heard the alien head at the track this weekend. same sound as smeg just a little louder imo.
still gonna get one though! and the plug for the neighbors.
but i thought someone had a thread on here a while back about having a clearance problem between the filter and a header pipe using a non stock filter or something? i could be wrong though.
gms118 hasnt had any problem with his.

Brock himself stated there was a problem with the clearance on the FIRST systems that came out this has been corrected I have one of the originals and I just had to loosen the hanger and push the exhaust system forward that gave plenty of clearance...

Exactly, perhaps the guy wasn't aware of the fact that Brock had a 'fix' for this.
As for the power difference, if the Muzzy has smaller primarys i would suspect you may feel a little more torque in the lower rpms as opposed to Brocks making higher HP up top.

I just changed my oil tonight for the third time, no issues with the brocks smeg. Best pipe and support out there, period. If you ever did have a problem with brocks stuff he would send you a new one on his dime.

Does anyone Know if that coating around the headers is really worth doing. Does it make a big difference on how much the bike heats up. Any opinions are appreciated.

It looks cool/different. Exhaust temp is reduced but motor still puts out tons of heat.
My pipe is ceramic coated.
