Ya, the Busa is an 9 year old design now. An eternity in sportbike years, I'm sure the new 08 Busa will rock though.

Yup I trade off with my Bud sometimes, the Busa is dated and the ergos are not as good, but it is still one hell of a bike. When the ZX14 keeps the title as long as it has, then we will have something to brag about. I would not trade for one, but it would be on the short list if I was considering a trade....TB

Its an 05 Busa. It handles good seems alittle wider than the 14 was bothering my hips til I got home. Nice power down low rpms thou so I think I will remove my 2nd flies to be the same it not better then his.

Even when the Busa was new the ZX12 handled better than the Busa did.

huh??? Have yet to see that in print at any magazine. Every article I read either had it as a draw (ZX12.org article go figure) or flat dogged the 12 for its abrupt throttle response, poor steering geometry, bad brakes, and faithfull front tire wash-outs.
Heck, my best friend had a 12R that he had Muzzy's shop build to a honest 205 hp on engine (it must be nice to know Rob Muzzy and Ricky Gadson's personal cell phone numbers), and he is one helluva rider, yet all he ever did was absolutely fight that beast trying to get it to handle. Diff suspension, changed steering head angle, higher rearsets etc. he never was happy, said it always pushed and wouldnt hold a line for shit. And his friends all had Busa's. He destroyed them on the top end but they carved around him on the corners and braking on a winding road.
(Kinda like dynosaurs fighting-really big and akward looking, but I had to hang back to watch, enraptured by the sheer effort put forth to do something they werent genetically meant for lol.)
So just in case your memory is getting nastalgic with time, the 14 is a better bike in every category than its predeccesor, I knew that without a doubt when, with 1001 miles on the clock I threw him my 14 keys and said "Tanks full, have fun" (for the record, only mods I've done are racetech springs and Two Brothers slip-ons). He returned 2 hours later, with an expression I've never seen on his face, and found himself at a loss for words. Yeah, it was that much better than his 12 or any of the Busa's he'd ridden. He said it felt nearly as powerful as his 205hp beast, but it was so smooth that he was able to use more throttle everywhere. Every single category it was hugely better. He was gonna buy another 12R (lowsided his), but now he's parting his out.

Only mags i've seen give the 12's handing any praise was fastbikes but even still they said they liked the busa's cornering ability better. The brakes however were wood and the 12 had much better brakes. The 14 has changed all that. Even better brakes, smooth power everywhere, and it handles amazing. Lower bodywork seems to find the floor easy when things get real fun though.

Real world results : I live 20 miles from a little road called Deal's Gap. 318 curves in 11 miles and I ride it every weekend and usually during the week if possible. I have been riding Deals Gap since I was 14 years old and now 26 years old. Coming from someone who has ridden both bike across the Gap several times the ZX12 handles TWICE as good as any Busa. I sold my ZX10 to buy a 14 and the 14 handles awsome in the curves even with my size being 5'5 @ 135 lbs.

I had all three of the bikes in 2006. I will say that the Busa was MUCH better in the city setting for riding than the 12 was. The 12 was pretty jerky... and top heavy... especially with a passenger. That was one of the major reasons that we bought the Busa. The clutch was good in the 12 until it got hot.. and then it would lurch and stick badly. The Busa was agile and smooth in the city. However, if I was riding by myself on back roads.... I would take the 12 anyday over the Busa!!! The low end was not as impressive, but the motor really PULLED HARD!!! It felt like it was a race motor. They really did a great job on getting that motor to rev! The bike was more aggressive around corners than the Busa, but if you had to change back quickly... the 12 was a PIG. It held real tight lines for me and was very comfortable and sure footed. The brakes were a TON better than the Busa. The Busa brakes faded really bad. Anyway, when I got the 14 I realized the best of all worlds. The brakes kicked butt... the handling was aggressive yet smooth. The motor (flies out) pulls hard from bottom to top. I will ride the new Busa... and have an open mind... but I don't think there is enough there for me to sell the 14 and fork out several thousands of dollars. I am looking for an older 12 to pick up because I really miss it. The only thing that I don't miss was the oil change... and the STUPID battery!!!! That is my real life input... It is funny how bikes seem to fit the rider differently.

I had this posted in the Hayabusa forum.......................
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I owned my Busa and my first 12R at the same time. I gave some fair comparisons I thought......................but I get tickled that the 12R get's left out of the conversation nowadays and only the Busa and 14 get compared.
Taking a stock Busa and stock 12R to the dyno on the same day showed the 12 making a few more hp everytime it seemed. Add an aftermarket exhaust to both and back on the dyno with no tuning and the 12 increased it's hp lead even more................
Install a pc and make timing adjustments to both and the 12 got farther ahead still............
With a 2" shorter wheelbase...............riding the 12 on the same loop back to back with the Busa, it was a no brainer which one was sportier to ride. The Busa seemed like it was hinged in the middle also..........the 12's chassis is much stiffer.........
Then there is the "looks" dept........................no contest...................... "
Adding to what you fella's have posted above............the 12 brakes were def. better than the Busa's.
Around town drivability was better on the Busa, it was smoother running at lower rpm's.
The 12 was definetly a more raw, unrefined motorcycle..........but a match for the Busa in almost any contest, and much more fun to ride.

I didn't say "my bike is better than your bike"............Steve................I owned both at the same time....................so I guess I had all the bases covered so to speak. I usually do...... Having both at the same time puts a person in a unique position............when it comes to all the debate................however.........it is still just one person's opinion. Take it for what it is worth.............I like both bikes...........just for different reasons. And I liked the 12 better........... That's why I still have two..................
