My ATP stage 2 turbo is done

As most of you know, I spun a rod bearing in my ATP turbo equipped ZX14 about 4 months ago. I shipped the bike off to ATP and had them to a complete redo on the motor. The cost was $xxxx, more than I want to say, but its finally finished.
I'll be having the bike shipped back to me in about a week or two, then off to the track, before winter sets in.

My goals are to just duplicate what I've already done E.T. wise, but to hit at least 175mph. Problem with E.T. will be limited traction at the track I'll be going to (KCIR), and a short shutdown area. So I'm gonna ease into it. I don't wanna run out of track.

If the weather holds, and I have the time off, I'll then go to Heartland-Topeka, which has a much longer shutdown area, and run the piss out of it.

Next year I'll be getting a TIC 1000 programmable boost controller to help with the launch, etc. But right now money is tight, so it will have to wait.

The numbers are around 403hp and around 200ft/lbs of torque. We're not going to dyno it because that just puts added stress on the motor that won't be needed. There is already another stage II ATP turbo ZX14 out there, and thats what he's putting out with around 22psi of boost, so we'll use that map, and boost level. I will turn it down of course, and ease into it. Might not even use nearly that much boost until I get the boost controller and re-learn how to ride/race the bike, again.

The pictures are of the waste gate. If you look closely you can also see the Adams Performance billet oil pan, purchased through Orient Express.

what all did ATP do to the motor to be able to handle 22lbs of Boost? what type of pistons, cams and head work?

Even you turn it down i would still use dyno to keep good air ratio.unless using.race gas if not tune will burn up pistons.you can burn up built motor with only 6 pounds.im at 300hp with 190ft torque with 15 pounds.

We used JE turbo pistons, carillo I-beam rods, titanium valve springs, stronger engine studs, stock cams, race cut transmission.....and I know I'm forgetting something.

Will do....it arrives from California in about an hour. Just talked to the truck driver and he's almost here. Will put it into the garage and clean it up and make a few adjustments, then going to KCIR on Friday.

Not sure if it will post big numbers as the track has a real short shutdown area, and I had enough problems stopping it at 168mph last time, at a different track.

Hoping to get somebody there to video me.....might take a friend along. I really don't know what it will run this time. They do nothing to prep the track at KCIR.....only sweep it...no VHT or trackbite....so I predict a quarter mile burnout.

If those hp & torque numbers are correct, you're puttin out more power than the pro stock bikes that are on tv. Maybe you should get a big ass slick for the back of it

You don't really need the pressure of being taped the first time out. Go out and be careful get feel for it then tape a copy for us! Post some pictures when you get unpacked!
I am going after mine as soon as the repairs are made to the motorhome.

Mines in the garage now. Just got finished cleaning it up. Gonna have to put the 43 tooth rear sprocket on it as there is too much slack in the chain at 17/41, and I'm out of room on the brake slider to go back any further. Eventually I'll go with an 18 tooth front sprocket, but am fresh out right now, and I'm going to the track on Friday.

The bike starts right up and runs flawlessly. I drove it on the street for just a minute or so, didn't even boost it, it just as smooth as it ever was.

BTW, I have the boost set at around 10psi or so.......probably won't crank it up for awhile. Besides, not many tracks will hold 400hp all at once. I really think we're going to need a boost controller to use all that we have. I also think anything more than 400hp is a waste, and really pretty much unusuable in the current frame, and with a street tire. For top speed runs thought, it would be ideal.

Also, the billet oil pan I got is more than I could ever have imagined. It truly is beautiful, and you can hardly see it on the bike. The nice thing is now, my ground clearance is limited to the lower black plastic fairing......so I could pretty much slam the bike if I wanted. Its amazing how much ground clearance you gain with the pan.

ifly,
good to hear that everything is great, i bet it is a big relief to have it back. you are right on the money when you say how that pan gives you a ton more ground clearance. we had to reconfigure a few things to get the max drop but yet maintain the right ground clearance for prostar rules. A few of the mods were the front forks, lower belly wing, lowering links werent low enough, so we had to use the adjustables, rear shock mount , etc. But at the end of the day those little things just might give you the edge. so you are not using a boost controller? how about a boost guage? if so were are you mounting yours?

if i knew how to paste a picture i have a real nice shot of the pan on my bike, i had mine polished and anodized black chrome. i will have to figure out how to do that.

I have a boost guage and fuel pressure guage mounted to the top of the triple tree. Don't have a boost controller yet, but I do see one in my future.

iflyems - is there any room for a intercooler or water injection ? Are you using pump gas or race gas ? When I got my 1st turbo Busa in 01(Hahn) I melted the pistons doing top end blasts on pump gas.

Nice set up you have...

No room for an intercooler. Don't know about water injection. Im running VP C16 race gas, and have the timing retarded about 6 degrees.
Thanks

Not the first Hahn kit I have seen burn pistons. Either you were lean or the turbo was boost creeping which is a fairly common problem with the Hahn kits...

The kit that Dave sells for the ZX14 is an ATP kit. Dave=Dave Hahn of Orient express. He knows his stuff when it comes to turbo's. They already have an ATP turbo'd ZX14 running low 8's, stay tuned as we both work out the bugs.

I rode it around the block. Started immediately and purred like a kitten. Ran very smooth. I will be running it at our local track tonight, but don't expect any big numbers; I've got the boost at around 10psi, and the track has poor traction at best, and a short shutdown. I just wanna shake down the bike, and take it easy on the new motor, but we'll see. Last time I said I wanted to take it easy I went 8,80 at 168 on about the same boost, spinning the tire. so who knows.
