Oil leak
My red 06 is leaking oil out of left side of the valve cover at 6500 miles and the bike is out of warranty. Has anyone contacted Kawi about a recall I have heard this is not an uncommon occurrance.

I read it was a manufacturer error and the valve cover bolts were too long and not pinching the gasket..

That's why I am glad I bought my 400 dollar peace of mind for the next 4 years AFTER the initial manufacturer warranty.

Stump, that theory sounds outta whack. My 2003 zx12 had a leaking valve cover gasket @ 1500 miles...on the right side. I think its more a question of Quality control than anything else.

It happened to me. Same dayum thing. I'll paste my thread as I had all the parts needed. Since you're not under warranty this may help, don't let them BS you and waste time. If its like mine just a valve cover change and tightening won't resolve it.
Also make sure they clean the sponge thing on the inside. The stealership did mine (warranty) and I had to raise hell with them, my bike was new and looked like an oil field Sadam had bombed in Kuwait.

Mine was one of the first to have the problem, but now if you go to a dealer they should have all the data. If you want print the parts list it finally to to solve mine after two trips.
I think you'll be OK. Mine happened at around 4K and once corrected it hasn't had an oil issue since (I'm at 12,500K now)

Got an oil leak on the left side as well. Going to have to take it in. Still under manufacturers warranty. Will be getting extended warranty soon. Got till December.

Yes I found them stevewlf, thank you. I will ask for them on the first trip we'll see what happens. I talked to Kawi and they did not seem to want to admit a relatively widespread problem. We will see how customer service is in two days.
