Really? Do you prefer the Fred Flinstone method or do you have that new parachute mod that comes out from the tail light for quicker stops? Man dude I really do feel sorry for you. Do all of us a favor and take the MC safety class at least. I took it 5 years after I started riding, been riding for going on 17 years now and its not a bad idea for anyone to take a refresher course every couple of years.

slid your feet like the flintstones...Some things my friend happen in a instant and you just gotta have great braking skills for this kind-of monster...Do a whole bunch of 40 to 60 mph stopping and keep your damm foot off the rear pedal...Back in my old racing days we used to put full metallic pads on the rear so it was damm near impossible to lock up the rear tire going hard into a corner...I live in the mountains where the longest straight is about 500 yards and the three corners we get the most accidents on are the longer straights and a hard corner at the end...Three doa's on the same two corners in this year 07 and all three had chicken strips on there tires and 30' plus rear wheel skid marks...and all three showed signs of a long slid followed by a high side into the rocks...And please dont fall into the game of keep up with me "i will show you how to ride" many of out accident calls are new riders following other riders with more exsperience and with there brand new bike they ride with people that think its funny to just leave them behind and thats when a mistake takes place...Enjoy yourself and live to tell your storys..And post some pics..

I have mixed feelings about this as well. Personally, I like having a bike that can get me out of trouble just as much as it can get me into trouble. Handling and power are good, when you know you need to get out of situation fast, so it goes both ways.
Just don't end up like this guy, use your head around cagers, and also at night.

Hey steve your "thread troll" detector is broken. How about going back to "Steve's bumps" and relearning what a thread troll sounds like?

quote: Sure guys, encourage him to 240 tire it, lower it, and hell, might as well turbocharge it. He can learn to ride later......... COME ON!! Tyler you're in way over your head with a 14 as a starter bike, we rail all the time around here on guys buying too much bike too quick. I don't want to dog you, it's just a fact that in the next 6 months odds play out as: 40% chance you wreck it, and regardless of what is said it will be because of your inexperience: 30% chance you scare yourself so bad you sell it or park it in your garage and just talk about owning it. ( in California 35% of homes have a current licensed street bike, while less than 20% admit to riding ANY motorcycle regularly): 30% chance you just scrape by the initial months and learn your skills to stay alive, learn enough of your bike (I hope) to be able to use it's power, handling, and brakes well enough to maneuver out of trouble on the streets. I won't even list the probability of your learning how to ride your bike really well in the handling department, because it unfortunately won't happen. Maybe maybe you can bump all those odds in your favor by taking a riding course at your local track AFTER you take the MSF beginner course. If you spend enough time at the track, used wisely, you just might prove me wrong. I'm not a hater, just a pessimist. Seen it happen SO MANY TIMES to new riders... At least I don't know you so I won't have to scrape you off the pavement after you hit the gas full throttle for the first time...
Don't worry...if he has a 06-07 14 they're so gutless below 6 grand he'd have more threat of injury on a moped. The early 14's are pathetically, limp-wristedly weak down low. I TRIED to get mine to do something dangerous under 6 grand....like accelerate....good luck Now if he has an 08 or likes to wind his bikes up alot he could be in for a world of hurt.........

exactly the point MJ. After he gets used to that weak lowend, just wait till he gets some dork on a 600 next to him eggin him on and he wacks the throttle thinking its just gonna get progressively faster from what it has on the bottomend. right about 9K he'll be going "OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT WHAT DO I DO?!?!?"

Yaah Tyler, that is a nice bike. Is it just me, or is there something up with the paint on the tank where your crotch and legs meet it? Some kind of clear tank protector?

to each his own. I hate bling, but I've seen some really sweet rides with a little bling on them. Can't see the pics, but glad to see you're still alive. Enjoy your ride, you're making the payments.

It's just LED for at night. I never ride at night, because I don't like it. BUT, if I did, I'd sport some of those blue or green LED's. I think they look good Tyler. Also I wouldn't consider those BLING. BLING is tons of chrome and shit.
Ignore Mike1024 sometimes. He is an intelligent fellow, but can be VERY RUDE at times.
Enjoy your awesome new toy man. Stay in touch on the boards and don't let others keep you away.
Peace!

agreed, that is not bling. and its only cool to bling if youve already got a worked motor and sick brakes :P
my first bike was the zx12, i bought her new when i was 19. if i had to do it all over again, i probably would have gone with a zx9 as a starter. men of large carriage simply can not fit on these smaller 'beginner' bikes.
i think some of you are knocking him because of huge egos - only a seasoned pro could handle a zx14 right? kudos to tyler, because both he and his bike are still in one piece.

If I may....
Ego's aside, I won't mention how many bikes, or how long I've ridden....
The 14 is not the most conducive machine to learn on period....
In fact , if anything it will inhibit the learning curve...
Larger doods need larger bikes for sure...
There are smoother, slower bikes bigger than the 14 to learn on...
Bandit 1200, comes to mind...
In fact the entire bandit line up is large compared to today's new designs...
Gawd the traffic here has me on edge sometimes, really aggressive drivers with no skills in boomtown, I couldn't imagine worrying about my skils at the same time... yikes...
Good luck, ride smart....
what you ride totally has everything to do with you, not me!

You can kill yourself on foot if your not careful. Just remember that it is a machine.....it doesn't care if you live or die. It won't remember your birthday, it won't wash itself, it is just as happy plowing you into a brick wall going 180 as sitting looking pretty. It doesn't give a rat's tooshy about your family either.
