Brock's SMEG and PCIII install, some quick musings

After an arduous install process hampered by "Texas Fried Shit", a.k.a 1000% humidity, 90+ temps and off and on rain, I have finally modded my stock 14 after 1 year of ownership and 10K miles.

The install process was OK, notably a lot easier than doing a full exhaust on a car or truck. When pulling off the stock mufflers/cats, I was surprised at how HEAVY they were. There has to be about 50 lbs ballast in the rear alone! The front headers were thick and a bit heavier than they appeared.

I preassembled the headers and midpipe, lubing the connectors with a very light coat of transmission fluid. This allowed the sections to swivel a little easier as I adjusted everything for clearance, and mating up with the header sections. The springs did a pretty good job of self adjusting the headers, everything else seemed to go well, with the exception of the mid pipe, I had to do a little pushing-pulling to get it to clear the motor at the bottom edge, near the old midpipe mount. It's still a very close fit.

I mounted the Dynojet module where the instructions suggested, by the ram air duct. I really wanted to locate it under the seat, however I don't think the provided cable would reach, not to mention, the cable connectors are large and won't route very well in the tiny spaces between the frame.

I purchased the black ceramic coating, and let me tell you - getting headers ceramic coated is the best thing you can do, period. On the initial startup and heat cycle (to test for leaks), I was able to quickly touch the header pipes right by the radiator when the radiator fan kicked on to cool down. Touching the stock header would have likely burned off my finger and landed me in the emergency room. After shutdown, about 5 minutes later, the can in the rear was lukewarm to the touch, and you could grasp the headers near the head and hang on to them. Mind you, this is in hot, dank ass Houston August.

Ceramic coating is AWESOME. I strongly recommend anybody in the market looking for headers, or if you already have some, get them coated. The benefits are well worth the costs, especially considering how hot the stock system gets.

I haven't been able to ride yet due to the storms, I will likely be able to later this evening. Comming off the Pitbulls, the bike is noticeably lighter. Almost like going from a fat chick to a Olsen twin lighter! So, with the flys out, filter screen out, the SMEG system on, the map loaded, what can I expect?

Ummm a noticeable kick in the ass ?!

Be gentle with it especially if you just did all this at once, and you will be extremely glad you did.

Enjoy.

Orjief, I haven't had anyliterbike, nor busa give me trouble... none..
You will fall in love with the bike all over again..

Just like a new bitch,
but NASTIER! .... GOOD AND DAMN DIRTY NASTY......

THE INCREASE IN BOTTOM FROM REMOVING THE FLIES WILL BE EQUALLY COMPLIMENTED WITH THE SMEG.

That sumbitch will pull hard right into the rev limiter now. IN EVERY GEAR!
6th will pull like 5th used to!
LOL, I remeber the bike did 300 stock, and with the smeg, you really notice the timing pull out of it , its like someone put on the brakes! LOL
Before I pu the speedohealer on I saw 305-310 cause the timing is not retarded enough to pull / hold it down to 300!

You have a 16 tooth, and speedohealer?

Add those to your parts list and you will have completed the transformation!

Take out onto a empty straight road and rip it to redline in each gear.... you'll be smilin HARD!

Holy.
Muthafucking.
SHIT.

That was one wild ass ride. I thought the ATK Intimidator 700, sounded nasty. It doesn't hold a fucking candle to the 14 with this pipe.

My bike was running HORRIBLE prior to the remap, the headers and exhaust had 0 carbon, all pasty white and scorched like the plugs. Running way damn lean. I'm willing to bet that a remap on the stock bike would have fixed a lot, however this is mucho better.

Hell, on the highway, I though the clutch was slipping when downshifting to third and blasting. My buddy was telling me the ass end was breaking loose! Front end comes up at will, and you can power wheelie in higher gears too. And yes, the pull is just off the fucking rails. Finaly, I can enjoy this bike in all its Kawasaki rawness. No way in hell it could have came this way from the factory, idiots and first time bikers would have died quickly.

I'm going to do a new chain and sprockets soon, likely I'll do a Vortech 42 in the rear. I'm going for the Marachisi or BST rims next, I figure that should make it lightning quick.
