Poll Question:
Going back to the track soon...

Going back to the track soon but not till the temps cool down a bit .... It's just to hot to stand around in leathers and sweat my butt off .....I got the bike all back to race form but i'm keeping the wheel base down to 62 1/2 ...The bike wheelies a bit more at 62 1/2 inch wheel base but i ran my best 60 footers and ETs at that number...

I still have my spare motor so over the winter i'm going to open it up ..May do some head work and add some cams , maybe pistons also ...If have tested just about eveything i can think of without going into the motor ....

So here is a question for you guys .. What would you do?? Turbo or build a motor ?.

I agree with BlackMagic, test a built motor, with big bore high compression pistons, a ported head and cam...........i'm dying to know what those mods will do.

You the man Smokey!

Definatley prted head and cams! Mainly cause turbos are expensive, high maintance, high heat, and thats all you see when it comes to built bikes! And i would like to do the same and you would be a great guinnie pig!!! LOL!

I just got done talking to a guy on Buying his turbo Busa and after talking to someone honest I would not go turbo to much work and money in up keep. To go fast with a turbo takes alot more then just a turbo, lock up clutch, boost controller etc. In the bike I was looking at, He said it needed a new clutch every 10 to 15 passes. Smoking you have already ran faster then most turbo bikes unless they are all out race bikes, and with a ported head and cams will probably go 8.30's to 8.40's with no spray and 8.1's to 8.20's with a 40 shot.

I would say start out with the least expensive mods and work your way up.
This way we will all know what we can do gradually to make the 14's faster/quicker.

Anyone running compareable HP , no matter how you do it, should run a lock up.
# of passes on a clutch is totally depandant on your set up, weight, technique and HP.

Turbos idle and better driveability than big cams...
"bump a lump a lump a bump...." .... both sound real nice though...!

Good to hear Smokin but for some reason, I thought you sold the bike. I voted going the turbo route "BUT" the factor of hurting the stock motor is a factor as well so with that I guess a built motor with higher compression pistons, cams, etc. would be the smart choice first.

that's what i did smoke, i ported&polished my heads, got je pistions, that brought my compression up to 13-5-1, also change my rods to falicon rods, 14 's have rod problems.
always had nos, got a 65 shot that will be prob a 30 something when u hit it.,

i just realy wanted a true 200 or better on motor, or close to it, an with nos, atleast a real 220 hp, i should get more, but i'm opening minded an not expected turbo numbers lol...

the avg bike on tha street only has about 135-160hp, avg bike 750-1300 cc stock bikes.

with that high a compression, i wanted at max 40hp on spray, no more

bayou boy very nice ..Can you fill us in on how your zx14 runs now ??
Also i did not think there was a rod problem? I have seen two that spun bearing but both were do to oil problems or lack of oil ...The rod got damage but wasn't the cause ..If you know more please fill us in ...Smokin..

Lee...ya big sissy. 300hp is nothing. You've seen the videos of mine. It was totally tame. I really didn't think I was going as fast as I did until I saw the time slip. No hint of trying to wheeie. Get blown, go fast

My 14 rod spun the bearing because of a combination of issues. The biggest problem was that the stock rod bearing on #3 was tight from the factory. It has very little clearance, and that didn't allow sufficient oil into it to cool it off. We've replaced the rods, and have special ordered some different number bearings that will give me more clearance to allow more oil onto the bearing surface.
Also got the Adams billet oil pan.

Turbo is the cheapest way to go. But anything more than about 270hp and you MUST modify the motor; Rods and turbo pistons are a must.

ye, i blew rods @500 miles full service, a friend of mines did same, all num#3 rods, then 4 more, so i just decided to change my rods all together when i went in the motor anyway to be safe.

I would do just the head-valves/springs, porting, cams...BECAUSE, well we know why it needs it

Thats just me, I like stock motors...With stock motors you can do laps

i did valves also, i 'm not a super huge fan of big bore all tha time, it 's help's busa's out alot, cause a stock busa is no match for a 14 stock,, what i consider stock busa is pipe,pc , i was beaten busa's with bone stock, factory pipes, when i got my brock smeg, it got worse, ,then from that time on, i don't think i ever ran a stock busa again lol, all 1397's, some with spray,

one thing about our bikes, that i notice, smoke can vouche for this, 14 's get in the heads of busa riders, they don't know what to expect, an boy when they see that bottle, they wait an watch u run 1st, then make a choice, even 1397's, that got more cc 's an think that will do it, i spray the shit out'of em, beat 'em by atleast 2 bikes, sometimes more that was before all my work in my bike,

it's funny, all i hear wait till new busa comes, the new busa here, but it an't scary,an it has to be proven, it might be the 1200 of this decade when kaw came out with the 12 for the busa, it reminds me of that, the real specs i here are 195@crank,compression 12-5-1,compared to 12-0-1, 197@crank,for zx-14

but what we have is wght advantage, 485busa-474zx-14, an if u have a drag seat on ur 14, then ur 14 wghs 469,take exhust an put pipe on ur pipe then ur 14' wgh's 440-450 something,

busa will be smaller without pipes also, but i take wght over 2 hp anyday.
the busa going run no doubt, but i think it will be dead even or right behine, never in front a kaw..................lol
