I grew up north of Sudbury, the roads there are pretty nice.
You'll probably wish your riding the 14 instead.

I hope your using a bow.
Guided hunts with rifles are no challenge, and not very sporting IMO.
Be a man ....Eat what you kill!
If its just for the thrill... and you leave alot of waste... then I hope the bear gets ya.

With any luck, the bear will get to you before you get to the bear. Hunting a bear makes you a coward, not a man.

LOL.
What a dumb thing to say.
Statements like that just provide amunition for the enviro groupies.
I'm sure you didn't mean it, and if you did .... well natural selection will have its way!

I have owned mx bikes all my life, atv's 4x4"s and also hunt, and fish.
I also have native heritage and love the land, animals and tree's.
There is a difference between use and abuse, and if every one of the 10 billion population had that mentality, the earth and nature would be healthy and available for future generations.

I am a tree hugger i guess, because I respect nature.
I am not sierra Nevada type though, we will leave a footprint on the earth, its inevitable, but we don't need to destroy everything for the sake of being able to do it.

In Montana, my grandfather owned a ranch, and used to chill out with some black bears. They would sit on the back of the pickup tail and drink beer that he brought in the cooler.

Dayum guess I better sell off my collection, Prolly about 40 guns, I favor big bores, but love em all. Used to hunt and fish, ate my kill and catch, and enjoyed the hell out of it. Last ten years or so, havent done either, but still manage to buy a new gun every now and then. Bear Stew isnt bad if done right, grew up eating squirrel, or tree rats, deer, and many varietys of our little feathered friends. Killing animals doesnt bother me, but then I dont put animals on the same level as humans. Actually dont lose any sleep over the humans Ive killed either. However I dont kill just for the joy of killing, but there is something to be said abut hunting dangerous game that can do you in. I think that game ranches that do the canned hunts are pretty low, and people that patronize them are even lower. If I cant go to Africa and hunt Lion on its terms, I am sure not gonna pay a game ranch to shoot an old crippled up zoo lion.....TB

I am from south of Sudbury, Parry Sound. The Bear hunt is needed this year. There is a huge population of bears as of late. The local Ministry of Natural Resources has recorded the most bear sighting calls in history. Bears have even started to roam into town!!

Bear meat is excellent meat. I am sure the original poster will be hunting within regulations, so it won't be a slaughter fest.

When man encroaches on a bear's environment, why is that the bear is the one who ends up dead? They were there first and if we choose to expand our cities into their neighborhood, we need to live with the theoretical consequences. I live in California and every time a bear wanders into a neighborhhod, they shoot it. It's disgusting! Don't build homes in bear habitat and you will never come into contact with them. It's as simple as that. Unless you are going to go fight the bear with nothing but a knife, there is absolutlely no sport in the hunt. Using a rifle or even a long range bow gives the bear no chance and shows the hunter for the coward he is. This forum is for riders of a great bike, not for fuckheads who kill innocent animals from long distances. Get a fucking life!

Here is part of an article from the local newspaper here...

quote:
The spring bear hunt was cancelled in 1999 by the Conservative provincial government because it was determined that sow bears were being killed, leaving orphaned cubs behind. Subsequently, the fall bear-hunting season was extended. In the Parry Sound area bear season now starts the Tuesday after Labour Day, instead of September 15.

Some people believe the cancelled spring bear hunt has increased the number of nuisance bears and bear attacks on humans because of the increased bear population. But there is no scientific data to uphold that notion, says Cambrian College's Dr. Josef Hamr.

"First of all, in the first year they're out of the den, they are with their mothers," said Dr. Hamr. "So, if they came near human residences it's because the mother takes them there. In the fall, there is a hunt, and the hunting season is longer now. During that time, people shoot at them. I don't think not shooting at them in the spring makes them less afraid."

Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norm Miller raised the issue of the cancelled spring bear hunt at Queen's Park earlier this month. He asked the Minister of Natural Resources and Aboriginal Affairs David Ramsay if he would honour one of his campaign promises to reinstate it.

"This must be a sheep in bear's clothing, I think, that's asking me this question today, and it's interesting. What I think the member should note is, that as bears begin to wake up now as the winter is over, so do the bear hunt questions that come in the spring. It's an annual thing with the opposition," Mr. Ramsay responded in the Legislature.

and another..

quote:
OTTAWA - The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters the largest nonprofit, charitable conservation based organization in Ontario, recently reported that nuisance bear calls to the Ministry of Natural Resources have increased by almost five hundred per cent since the Harris government cancelled the spring bear hunt in 1999.

A recent scientific study published by bear biologists in Manitoba has conclusively demonstrated that the presence of a spring bear hunt is a valuable wildlife management tool that has helped to hold nuisance bears in check in Manitoba, where a spring bear hunt still exists. During the same four-year period when nuisance bears in Ontario were becoming a significant problem and posing an increasing threat to public safety, the Province of Manitoba experienced no increase in the number of calls about nuisance bears.

Necessary tool

"The conclusions provided by these biologists offers further proof that the spring bear hunt is an important tool in reducing or maintaining problem bear incidents at tolerable levels and is biologically sustainable," said OFAH provincial manager of fish and wildlife services Dr. Terry Quinney. "The findings in this report supports the OFAH position that the cancellation of the spring hunt in Ontario, and the startling increase in the number of nuisance bears are directly related.

"For years we have argued that the two issues are closely linked, but the Harris government refused to recognize the science around the issue and cancelled the hunt for reasons of political expediency."

The OFAH is asking the Ontario government to review the Manitoba science immediately and tell the Ontario taxpayers the truth about the clear connection between no spring bear hunt and the rising nuisance bear problems and associated costs.

Hunting and eating bear is no worse than the way chickens and cows are killed in assembly line fashion. Eat what you kill, thats what the meat has been put on earth for. Either go in the woods and kill it or hit the drive-through at MickeyD's, either way enjoy the meat!
