Speedohealer Setup

Hi Guys,,,, ...after finally getting around to switching the two speedohealer wires i had crossed ,(what a pain it is getting those wires out of the connectors once they are snapped in).. and after reading the directions several times... im confused,,, I know the stock speedo if off roughly 8%... i just cant follow the instructions on programing the speedohealer... (i have stock gearing) ... im now getting the flashing LED ..which i wasnt before (crossed wires)... its in the transparent mode now.....with everything fine (running as if the speedohealer isnt there...stock form)..... im just having a difficult time programing this.... Any help would be appreciated....

I have mine set for about 3% lower. With stock gearing and tires.

I forget the actual figures, but you can use the SH calculator for actual speed vs the speed you see on the speedo. Mine was out 3% I think it was.

You can figure it out yourself. Get your owners manual and in the spec section shows the primary ratios and gear ratios....like I said, I can't remember the figures right now, it's something like at 4000 rpm in 3rd is 60kms, and 4000 in 6th is 120kms.

So get the figures from the manual and put them in here http://kawiforums.com/forum/speedcalc.asp .

It will tell you your speed for whatever gear you choose and the rpm. I picked the above example and my bike read about 3 kms too high. Then put the observed speed and the actual speed into the SH calculator and it'll spit you out a formula to enter into the healer!!

If you're asking how to alter the speedohealer settings, this is what I do to set kmh to mph to defeat the ecu speed limiter.

To set the calibration value to convert km to miles
-The ignition switch must be OFF
-Set ALL Speedo Healer Switches to ON
-Turn ON the ignition
-Press the SH button = memory cleared
-Set all Speedo Healer switches to OFF except #2
-Press the SH button 2 times
-Set #2 switch to OFF = data stored in flash memory
The SH will now convert km to miles (the inner km scale on the speedo will now be mph)

It's a similar operation for the other conversion factors, after the memory is cleared just look up whichever function you want in the truth table to see which switch number and how many button presses. For example to set it to under-read 8% it's switch number 5 and 8 button presses. Hope this helps.

hmm guys your speedo's are more accurate than mine I see. I've only got 650miles on my bike, but since mile 7 (damn dealer demo rides lol) its consistently been aprx. 15% off. Thats a huge amount off for a stock speedo, and I'm pissed. Should I take it back to the dealer for a warranty issue? Wonder if dealer can put on a speedohealer to fix it or if they are stuck with only option being replacement. I do plan on raising the rear sprocket up a couple teeth next year, but dangit, it's brand new!! First the overheating problem then the speedo problem, so much for waiting a year for Kawi to iron out the bugs...

If it's really 15% off check that you are running standard 17/41 gearing because you have around twice the normal 7% to 8% error.
A 16 tooth gearbox sprocket will introduce a further 6% under-read on top of the "built in" one.

what do you know. I compared my speedo against my wifes new Suburban and my buddies 636 (he had a speedo shop install the speedohealer, its dead nuts on) and both agreed that when they were at 60 I was indicating 69-70mph when my 14 only had about 20 miles on odometer. 600+ miles into now and I repeated test. at true 60mph I'm reading about 66mph. WTH??? It's a dang digital speedo, how can it change as I break in the bike?? Jeez that combined with the incorrectly installed fairing gasket, unknown clunk I keep hearing at lower rpm's in traffic, and chronic high temp condition at slow speeds has me thinking Kawi doesn't know how to control quality at its plants. I also hear/feel what I believe is one of the balancer shafts loose. I'm half afraid to dig deeper into my "new" bike anymore, I might find missing fasteners or duct tape. jeez

Tread wear and tire pressure can both act against your speedo.

naww not the problem, 35 psi just checked and tread still new, been breaking it in so the tire has been spared a reprieve for now. lol.
might just be the need was lubed to much or had something causing it to read fast, who knows, point it it's changing and it shouldnt be.

Speedo on the 14 is off from factory by 8.6% (happy).

talked to the dealer about the speedo, he says "all bikes average 10% fast or more on there speedo's nothing we can do about it". 10% my ass, my experience is around 5-6%. Wish the manufacturers would just do something novel, like make the speedo's accurate!! Jeez they thing they are helping us not get tickets when in fact, they are not. As soon as even a rookie rider realizes his off by nearly 10mph at freeway speeds, we just add 10 to every indicated speed. not good at 25mph when the speedo is only off by 4 mph but you're going 35. We shouldnt have to calculate our speed! And I don't know about you, but around here if you suddenly slow down to noticeably under the speed limit when you get near a cop it's as if you said "I'm either drunk or just did something illegal and now I'm paranoid. please follow me!"
