Pilot sports wear fast!
Been doing alot of riding in BC last 2 weeks !
2500 km and rear was done, and front is about 50%.
Even with considerable traffic, fuel stops, and the odd break, i have logged as many as 800km in 6.5 hrs, which is good considering the usual max speed limit is 90 km/hr, and every 3rd corner seems to have a suggested posting of 40km/hr
I have stayed to the less travelled highways, and away from toll roads.
Crowsnest pass, 3a, connector through twin lakes was a blast, old #1 through hells gate and lilloet was a hoot too, old #8 to Mission was rough but an unreal ride through desolation only found this side of arizona and texas deserts.
From the tight twisty west side road in the okanagan, to the Coquihalla connector to kelowna, climbing 7% grades for miles on end at over 270 km/hr it has been a veritable time machine.
I must say however, most roads in BC a GSXR 750 would likely be sufficient scalpel, as the roads are somewhat rough and worn at times, and many times i have had the rear slide on the 14 at speed even when on it lightly, short shifting below 8grand, and toqueing it out of the curves.
The 14 has been an incredible machine for gobbling up miles, straight or curved!
I am almost regretting all the parts i ordered to stretch it out and drag race!
I definatly plan to return before the snow hits the mountain passes.
The pilot powers have began to gum and ball up near the edges, and for once my tire just may be half worn on the sides before the center is done.... the 14 likes to chew the rubber, but i have not the cahones nor stupidity to twist it wide open in the curves like I do so frequently once its pointed in a safe direction and standing up straight.
Frequently gravel gets kicked onto the tighter curves from cages running too tight.
I sure am happy for the incredible brakes and frt weight bias the bike was engineered to have. The brakes have saved my ass many times, and I have had the front loft upwards fromn the apex while leaned over several times already... a literbike would be scarry I would think... wanting to wheelie out of corners all the time if twisted the way i have the 14.
If I lived in BC I would be too busy beating the curves to drag race the bike,
Alas ....the mighty 14 will be set up for straight line duty as thats all Alberta has to offer.
Oh and Alberta needs to fix the roads... they really suck compared to the condition of the roads in BC.
For Alberta to be the richest province with all the oil and the worst roads is ludicrous.

They work well on sport touring bikes like the ZX12/14, XX, and Busa but were not necessarily made for those bikes. According to a 1999 motorcycle.com article, the Pilot Sports were "fitted as OE equipment on all new Ducati 996s, Aprilla RSV 1000s, CBR 929s, ZX-6s, ZX-9s and MV Agusta F4s".

The big ZX will eat em all up... no matter what type of skins are on there if you're on it hard. Never use them darn sporties though.. IMO ... stay with the stickies. And Colorado hwy's suck after winter. Well into the Spring.... gravel sucks balls!!!! Already went down, and re-built from a minor disagreement with that sh_t. Just keep the rubber side down brother!

Power's work better and last much longer than the Sport HPX's Lyle. I ran Sport's for years on my Busa and the R1, till I switched for the power's. On my 14, I get about 7000 KMS on the PP rear's and I ride like you. I get 9k on my 10R easy and I'm geared down low on both bikes...I got only 3500 KM's on the POS BT014's and they washed out once in a while too.

my bad... runnin and burnin up the 2ct's !
goin through kootneys and nakusp from Vernon to Revelstoke salmon arm, and back to Vernon tomorrow. All new black top on Hwy 32 and some of Hwy 6.
yes the best riding i have ever experienced, every ride has been an epic ride!
I have been burning roads i dreamed of running in a porsche or such as a child, before I ever rode on the street. The 14 is much more fun than even the most exotic cages IMO.
Next year will be a 2 week loop from montana yellowstone, valley of fire ,arches national park, monument valley, Grand Canyon, over to california, up the pacific highway through the redwoods, and yosimite.....

Oh 2CT's...ya 25-30% lower mileage than the original Power's, but holy fuck can you ever tear up the turns with 'em...I scrape pegs all the time with 'em on and they've never even come close to washing out.
I did Calgary through Vernon, Kelowna, Vancouver Island, Jasper, Banff, Golden... etc about 4 years ago on my FJR1300. We did 7000+ KM in 2 weeks and loved it out there. I'd do it again in a heartbeat! Lot's of deer /moose in the eve's out there

I just put Pilot Roads on my 14, so far so good, I will post back later with results. I cant wait for the Pilot Road 2 (2 compound) to become available. That sounds like a great tire. Testing went great.

You kinda like them Dunlops eh...?!
Aint tried them yet.
I'm happy with my Corsa IIIs for track and Stradas for touring/commuting.
Stradas way too hard for continuous hard riding but they ride fine and stick well to a point. And then break loose smoothly. They worked well in the chip seal roads in Eastern Wa. and great in the rain.
Sounds like a Great trip!!!! You'd like the trip through the Rockies. I love all the back roads and highways in the West..

Sorry, there is no way Dunlops are better that Pilots (mileage maybe). Dunlops rank down with Shinko in my book. Vote Dunslop if you are in to drifting.

Still wondering how well the Metzeler M3 works in the 14. Done 11000 km so far, both road and track, and there's still some 3 mm of tyre thread left at the rear. The pressure has been a bit over 3 bar. AFAIK this tyre is a bit harder than Diablo Corsa III but the grip is simply brilliant.

HUH?? why are people saying the 2CT's wear quicker than the regular Powers?
Aren't the 2ct's made with a harder center compound just for that reason, so they DON'T wear prematurely?

Not sure if that is the case. I think the sides are softer not the center being harder. If you want a harder center and soft sides then you want the Pilot Road 2CT's whenever they decide to release them.

Dunlops are pure crap when lined up against a Pilot Power if you are going for stick and performance. I've ran both on my bikes. At least the Dunlaps last longer.
