am I the only person that thinks.....

that stretched bikes look like ass???? an extended swingarm kills the look of an otherwise badass bike. sure, they serve a purpose for those who race, but they destroy the symmetry and proportion of the bike. to me, a bike looks like crap with the back tire sticking back past the tail.

what looks stupid is trying to drag race your bike with thousands in power mods, only to do a wheelie for half the track. I do it every week.

I said that they serve their purpose on the dragstrip. at the strip, looks doesn't matter, only the numbers on the bottom of the slip. but we all know that many stretched bikes never see the strip.

When I look at my bike the stock swingarm is too short. The rear tire looks too small in my opinion. Too bad b/c I can't bring myself to ruin the excellent highspeed handling characteristics of this bike.

It all comes down to opinions - I believe a properly setup 14 that is extended with a big tire kit looks good but my riding style will not allow that. Some people are in this for performace while others are into the show aspect - to each his own - it's there right.

I dislike the look as well. Never liked it in the least. On the strip it's great. On the street... ack.

That's what I believe. The only thing it does on the street is turn your wheel into a jar-catching unsprung gyro.

Stretched sport bikes that are not raced.....

Lucif3r:

You are not alone. Serious drag racers excluded, I don't see the point of seriously reducing the functionality a capable sport bike for street only use. That said, I understand that a large contingent of bike owners who don't race their bikes take the stretch step for the "look". To each his own...

Ride safe.....

First you need to seperate those who do it for looks and those who do it for performance. You can always tell the BLING bikes from the Go Fast bikes. I like to see a little streach on some bikes but not too much. Now a streached big tire bike is just plain stupid. Any bike streached 4 to 6" rides far smoother than stock wheelbase and for most can corner just as well. Before I streached mine, I could not keep the wheel down in 1st and 2nd.

On the strip fine. Whatever gets you through the traps quicker.

On the street: they look like ass.

I love the look of a zx14 slammed and stretched AS long as it not to far out there ... 62 to 63 inches to me looks cool as hell but 66 to 70 looks like ass ....Mines now at 62 1/2 and that seems to be the number that works best for me .... Stock the wheel and tire looks to tiny and it's tucked way to far under the bike ....It's ok if you don't like it ... It's all good ..Smokin..

Doesn't matter what I think. If it's not harming anyone people should be free to do what they want. It's bad enough with joe public regarding bikers as a sub-species without us doing it to one and other.

Well I dont race, but did mine for two reasons. First was to keep the front down and not have to worry about it. Second was to smooth out the ride and reduce the chop. As far as twisties go, it doesnt seem to degrade the performance at all. Just came back from a week in NC and Tenn and got in some great peg scraping runs. Now when I was a bullet proof youngster, I may not have done it, but at 68 the reflexes arent what they used to be, and streached a little the bike is very controllable and a joy to ride. Works with the 200 out back, and I like it, works for me and thats all that matters......TB

I just sent my extra swingarm I had off to get chopped... but Im only getting a stock to 3 inch adjustable on it.. I agree with too long looks funny for the average street rider, but for the dragstrip its a different story.. Havent even had mine to the track yet, but hopefully soon...Anyway, thats why I have 2 swingarms, in case I dont like it....
