I had a 12-great bike-bought the 14-Really Big diff. The 14 just gets stronger the higher the rpms. Awesome bike. I love mine!!! Handles quick-but it can deceive! I found that out!!!I think it's because it runs so smooth-you miss sometimes just how fast your'e going!

i had a '00 12 also. i loved it. after 1200 miles on my 14, on the highway i kinda miss it! i rode about 250 miles yesterday and the 14 just doesn't seem to be as comfortable in the road as my 12. on the 12 it seemed like i could get my legs in behind the fairings out of most of the wind, not so in the 14! having your jeans wipping around your legs for a few hours gets real uncomfortable and annoying! not to mention the buzzing in the bars at 60-65 mph. but maybe thats just my bike.
all i know is i put 24k miles on a lowered and stretched 12 and i don't see that happening on this one and its still stock.
but yes it is strong!

wow, THEMADKAW, your review is totally the opposite of any I have ever read or heard!!

That's ok, you are allowed your opinion, and the 12 is a great bike too!

Can you give us more information regarding your buzzing issues and the trouble you are having setting up for heavier riders?

ok fellas! don't get me wrong, I LOVE the bike! its just that on straight up highway riding its just not as comfortable right now.

the bars seem to buzz at highway speeds with stock gearing. lowered 1.5" front and rear. it doesn't seem to have enough compression dampening but i just started tuning on it. gonna work on getting it set up more today if it doesnt rain on me.

but so far it seems to need ALOT more preload

Yes, I had mine done by the local race team mechanic/builder...and I couldn't believe how much preload he had to give it, especially the front springs!

Hey. Had a 2000 ZX12R for 6 years then moved onto 14. 12R much more like big version of R1 etc in terms of riding position and feeling. The 14 is a much more refined bike in terms of power delivery, engine smoothness. Brakes are much better out the box also. I would still like to have the 12R in the stable but that's the way it goes. The 14, with flies out, has much more low to mid punch but does not feel much quicker up top.

2 cents.

MADKAW you need to regear that beast first of all!! stock gearing is optimized for like a 170 pound rider you need 16/42 for street riding and maybe 16/43 if you gonna race it a lot.. My experience with both bikes tells me they were designed for totally different things the 12 is like a big litrebike the 14 IS a sport touring bike so the suspension is going to be worlds apart!!!

i know! i went to find a 16t sprocket yesterday and parts unlimited is out of stock until mid aug.! finally found one but it won't be here until the end of the week and my vacation.lol i dont think i will have enough chain for a rear swap so i will work with this until i get an arm.
gonna turn in thepreload on the front more today. so what do you think 3 lines showing or 2? a good start?

Stock suspension on the 14 is better than the 12R out the box no questions. Still they are pretty much completely different bikes.
