Yea ace a 600 would be great man. Tell you what a lot of my friend learn an still ride on 600s. A good one to look at is the CBR600RR, new one. Handles great and a smooth throttle that pulls the whole way through. You dont want a to faced bike, with a big power band. Power band it just was it sounds like, where the motor gets into higher RPMs and feels like you just hit the NOS button. so me, i would not recommend the zzr. You will outgrow it fast. If you where in a major city i would but not on open roads, like we all said, you can kill yourself on a scooter if you ride like a ass. Oh and i forget to tell you, i got my R1 because i didnt want to out grow my bike turns out i never grew into it. Oh and 636s are great bikes too. I know guys that have been on the same 636s since the came out. Glad you got away from the zx14.

Im 16 and i have a zx-14 : ).... i dont care how old you are dont ride a zx14 if you have no experience...learn on a freakin dirtbike before you hop on a bike like the 14 and loop it infront of a group of girls tryin to act cool... but seriously i doubt i would have been able to handle this bike if it was my first...if you realy want a sportbike get an older 600 or something more reasonable... my first streetable bike was a dualsport...be patient and do it rite or ull regret it

Brave, and naive, is what you are if you think you can climb on a ZX-14 as your first bike and be safe and/or secure. You will be a danger to your self and everyone else on the road. Lear to ride on a basic machine. Learn the handling and dynamics of a motorcyle. Start with a bike that has little or no maitenance requirement, especially if your time is limited. And if you do goto the academy, you can even have a vehicle your first two years so it will just sit and rust/rot. Get a good reliable used machine to learn on, and if you drop it or it falls over, you wont be out $$$$$$$, insurance will be more reasonable as well.
Don't become another statistic we read about because your pride and ego overwrote your common sense.

You're dreaming, I have never met a 16/17/18 year old who wasn't tempted to open it up. Christ I'm 30 and I'm still an immature git (at times) a cbr 250 or the like is less likely to kill you, fact!!!!!
Very hard to flip a 250 at lights, where as a 14 just takes a flick of the wrist (which despite what you say, will happen)
I've just bought the new Ducati 1098S and this thing makes my old 998 feel sloooww, and you want a 14.
I'm sure someone will back me up here (smokin) but i'd think that a 14 would be more likely to rip your arms off and beat you to death with them than a 250.
I was a mature 16/17/18 and only had cars, still crashed one and was a passenger in two other accidents, it happens in a split second.
Here's a question. can you pick up the dead weight of a ZX14 if dropped, I tried it with my 998 and it was hard. and the 998 is about 40pounds lighter.
seriously, I don't want to hear that you've become a statistic, think about this long and hard and ignore the money element for a minute, you can always earn more money, but death is the ultimate tax.

I also don't think it's for real. One gets an appointment to the Air Force Academy the summer/fall after his junior year. The kid or ?? can't spell and his grammer is that of a 5th grader so I'm sure he's not Academy material. A busa plant? or a grownup with nothing but time on his hands and a inflatable doll? Either way... it's not worth a response.

the zx14 was my "First street bike". Not that i hadn't raced all my life and ridden a lot of fast bikes before.
I will say that my yz490 was a hell of a lot harder to ride and more dangerous than my 14 ever thought about being. Insurance cost wise, the 14 is cheap. I pay 34/mo. for full coverage at 22 years old through state farm. Each person is different. At 16, i could have ridden this bike better than I do now because I was still riding on the dirt and whether you want to believe it or not, riding a street bike is a hell of a lot easier than riding a bigbore dirtbike. There are just more outside variables to worry about and the consequences are way worse if you dick it up. I wouldn't reccomend a 14 as a first bike to ever learn how to ride, but for someone who has grown up riding i would reccomend it to them over any of the 1000's.
Here's what i've seen.
people buy a 600 and it makes no power so they're always trying to wring it out and they fuck themselves up.
people buy a 1000 and they are expecting it to run like a 600 and they fuck themselves up.
people buy busas and 14's, they are scared of it so they ride slower, and then when they get in it before they're ready for it they either A. Fuck themselves up, or B. Scare themselves so bad that they sell it.
But as was stated earlier... i'm all for natural selection.
