Power Commander install woes
I hate to sound like an idiot who can't figure out how to work on a bike but.....this thing is a bitch. No not installing the actual power commander....disconnecting the damn stock wiring harness. I worked at the SOB for an hour and don't think I got it to budge (fully depressed the quick release button).
How did you guys do it?
I thought about trying to use a screwdriver and fit it between the male/female ends and pry it out but clearance is so tight in there I can't get anything except one hand in there.....let alone leverage a screw driver. And I don't want to yank on the wires.
Any help?

Its kinda' tight but with patience I did mine when I put the Brocks stuff on, and I'm certainly not a mechanic. If I remember correctly, I used a long small screwdriver with a flat tip

Patience. It works. I spent about 5 minutes and like stevewfl used a long small screwdriver with a flat tip.

If you loosen the cross bar you make a bit of room, just loosen the blolt on the front end and take the bolt out on the other end and you can swing it up out of your way. I have put several Digi-kill boxes on and it is amazing what repeating the same task does for your ability to do this stuff quick. That being said, when I did mine I was in the same boat you are in cussing and sweating.

Thanks guys. I will try jarhead's tip on loosening the crossbar and see if I can get two hands in there....then try the small standard screw driver. I was a little concerned about using a screw driver because I didn't want to accidentally break the housing.
It was very frustrating to get that close and not complete it.
One good thing about it was that I discovered that the bolts on my coolant overflow bottle were not secured even hand tight. Literally just spinning loose. Amazing how thorough that 600 mile service is =P (bike is at 1400 miles now).
Anyway thanks for the tips.

a lot of jap and german oem harness connectors are made so that you have to push the connector in hard then push the release button then pull the connector off. not sure if this one but is very common

Use a long pair of needle nose pliars and a long flat head screwdriver. Use the pliars to squeeze the tab down and pull at the same time, and use the flat head to push the other side of the plug away from you. Then you can use the pliars to grab the power commander plug and manuver it into the factory plug then use the screwdriver to push the plug till it locks in place.

My Power Commander problems are a little different. I got ripped off by a scumbag scammer on E-bay. I'll get my $$ back eventually from Paypal, but it's a long process. I wanted to get it installed and the flies pulled by now but no deal. To top it off I picked up an industrial staple in the rear tire. I was naughty and plugged it but now the plug leaks. Game over. Time for a new rear hoop after only 1300 miles.

Slow and methodical. I researched how to do it all here. Flies, PC etc. And don't let your frustration/temper get the best of you, you will end up breaking something and then you won't even be able to ride. Good luck and remember to come to the forum with problems and concerns.

I think anyone who is having difficulty unplugging the stock harness isn't getting the little tab undone properly.
Look at the PCiii harness....and note how the locking tab works. That's what I did for both the PCiii harness and the TRE harness. Took 10 seconds to disconnect either one. I good yank on the PCiii harness under the throttles bodies due to the 'suction' affect created by the dielectric grease on the connector, but I was confident that I had got the tab undone, because I looked at the one on the PCiii harness first!

Update: Installed my PC today. A big thanks to those who offered helpful tips (especially ZXGRIFF). The needle nose pliers and screwdriver worked great.
Installed the Muzzy slipons as well.
Only downside so far.....bike is MOTHER F'N LOUD now. But it did seem to help a bit with temps, which is what I wanted. Thanks again.
