Gentleman's Agreement?
whats the purpose of Suzuki, Kawasaki, others limiting their speeds to 186mph on the big bikes?

I guess that's the speed they figured you won't get hurt at if you wreck. 186mph is MUCH safer than 210mph. LOL....it's all stupid.

300kph equals 186mph. I think that's why it's there. Nice even number in KPH.

The purpose of it is to pacify governments who threatened to step in to stop the speed wars for street motorcycles. It's actually a good thing. It's easy to defeat for those who want to and it keeps the bureaucrats from coming up with some crazy ass ban or limits as you know they would.
This is also the reason for the little baby steps in performance between manufactures from year to year. It's just enough improvement to top the other guy. The can just point to the limiter if big brother get nosey. At least for now.

If one looks back in history you will see Suzuki facked it up way back when the 1st Hayabusa came out and they ran silly those Autobahn adds in Europe that pissed off the public and the government. The 300 km limit has been in effect since to pacify them.

Well, thank goodness for the simplicity of the restrictions.

Fact is that you can buy a bike that does 300KMS/hr for 10K, so there are a lot more of those around and many riders who hit those speeds quite often, whereas there are only a handful of (older and more responsible) people buying that GT2, so you likely won't see them hitting 329KMS/hr and that's why we have this gentleman's agreement. I'm one of those 300 KM/HR bikers.

This is why it's all retarded, plain and simple. 186mph is no safer than 200+

Forgetting the political arguments for a moment, there is an economical one too.
The agreement prevented a price war. The manufacturer's didn't find they were having to build ever more powerful and sophisticated machines, which they would probably end up selling for little profit, simply to remain top-of-the-heap. With the agreement in place honour and bank balance were satisfied.

Everybody thinks that they are limited at 300 km/h. thats not the case. 295 km/h is when the limiter kicks in, also with a new hayabusa.
