Thanks Orient Express. Piston problem solved

Ok ive been waiting almost 2 months for someone to order a set of pistons from je. Je could make me one. It had to be a set with 1 extra. As some of you know i put the motor together and heard a popping noise at the back of the exhaust. It sounded as if it were missing on one cylinder. The bike would rev. It wouldnt idle once it was warmed up. The only way it would run was with it idled up. I rev the motor up and down. Only about 5k on the revs. The bike ran for 3 days. During this time i cked the timing, and plugs several times. Everything was in order. Came home started the bike and let it warm up some. Then a noise i will never forget. One exhaust valve broke in the piston and damaged the spark plug. It also damaged the head on that cylinder. I sent the head to coby adams. Im still waiting to get a call back on the head. Im trying to be patient. Im sure he has alot of jobs. So once he cks the head ill know what move to make. I briefly looked at the head and said the other valves werent touching the pistons. I still dont know exactly what caused it. Ive been calling schnitz and je for weeks now with now luck. I finally decided to call orient about their je pistons. Their pistons are only different from mine in weight. Their weight 262 mine 232. Everything else the same. The guy i talked to skip was able to change their order to help me. What great service. Great company to deal with. Hopefully i can find what happen to the mystery valve. Maybe it was sticking. The motor did run out of oil. I want to find out because i cant have this happen again.

yes i was thinking that myself. If i had the timing wrong. More than one valve would have hit. Both exhaust valves have the same lobe. Also i dont think it would have been on one cylinder alone. I hope coby can fix it. It made a mess of the head.

You said it ran out of oil? Perhaps the timing chain tensioner lost pressure and came loose? But then you would think it would bend more than just 1 valve.

how did you run out of oil ? Did you not check it enough and perhaps got some oil consumption ?
