another post on the knock!
well guys i posted back awhile back about the knock in my engine. I was doing it when first strart up and once it got hot would go away. well to make a long story short. its there all the time now and getting louder sounds like a rod knock. All the guys I ride with were even saying man that dont sound good. and i even was nice too the bike for break in. so its at the dealer and i told them i dont want it back until its fixed and dont let kawasaki blow smoke up my ass about a normal noise. If thats a normal noise on there motorcycle for $11,000 kawi can keep it i love the bike but i dont think its the same knock all you guys have you can feel it in the foot pegs.

Don't feel bad I bought the new Toyota Tundra. At 6,700 miles the motor blew up.

I had what I would describe as a 'ticking'. It was never a 'knock'!! After the oil change and several thousand miles, it got a lot quieter. I am sure that there is something wrong with your motor... and I would assume they will fix it. If not... then have them start one of the 14's that they have in the showroom. It will be very obvious that what you are describing is not 'normal'!! You will probably have to stand firm and tell them what it is going to take to make it right... (Normaly I use my wife for this...). As stated by the others... all of the manufactered products that we get will eventually have a 'bad apple'. I am extremely pleased with the sound, and performance of my 14 motor... and like most people on here... I have had a lot of bikes. Good Luck and I hope that your dealer is willing to stand by the product that they sell. If not.. ANY dealer can do warranty work!! Go somewhere else.

Don't be afraid of the new Tundra. They had a metalergy(sp) problem with the cams in the new Tundra. That has been corrected, and there have been no problems since. Sorry to jack the thread.

Sorry to jack the thread also. But they replaced the motor and it runs like a charm. I will buy another when I get rid of this one.

yea its not a tick thats for sure... like i said i love the bike i just want it fixed and fixed right. I really dont prefer to have the motor torn apart in pieces on a bench then but back together on a brand new bike with 700miles. The dealer stated that kawasaki does not do crate engines is this correct?

I have no idea, but there has been a Kawi dealer or salesman on here... but I forgot who it is. If you give him time, I am pretty sure he will let you know.

I never went to the dealer about my little knock because people on here told me it was normal. It has got alot quieter and it doesn't do it quite as often and it's got 4000 miles on it now, so I think my bike will be ok. I do hope they fix yours man! With only 700 miles on it, they should stand behind it and fix it, in my opinion.

Mine had like 600 miles on it the first time it knocked. It seems to have almost gone away now.
What I do notice is knock at cold startup. For a split second 'klackity klack', like the cam chain tensioner is losing it's prime.
Does the cam chain tensioner bleed down over night?

hmm, the more I think about this, the more concerned I am. I can likely get the new tensioner for free under warranty, because my wife works at the dealer.
I am gonna look in my service manual at the procedure for changing the tensioner.....

THAT noise is "normal."
The clutch noise is "normal."
The knock that many people complain about, IMHO, is not normal.
This is Kawasaki's official response:

BTW, don't try to call the Hotline. This bulletin was isssued to dealers.

Yeah, it's just weird that not all 14's make these noises.
