I have seen this happen before on a honda cbr1000rr and the fella was told by honda that using a none sg rated oil was the problem causing the clutch plates to slip and chatter breaking the basket. Under high stress if all the plates dont have direct simular force they can place tremendous stress on the basket, Unfortunitly he told the dealer he was using mobil one sf sl rated auto oil because hes a cheap bastard and they wouldnt cover it under warranty. What kind of oil are you using and what where doing when it happend. Sorry to hear it sucks being broke. Good Luck.

I don't know that this had anything to do with it, but the very first plate is in wrong!
It should be offset from the rest. Have you had the clutch apart ever?
Was it put together correctly?

I put the clutch in like that, I always do , alot of people do , same way I put clutches in my zx12, busa , and zx10 , I had over 600 passes in the last 2 years on my zx10 with a clutch set up like that. I pull the plates out at least every other weekend.

As for the oil I've used mobile 1 in all my bikes and have used in this one too as well as motul 300V.

Ok looks like you have maintaned it well, did it break in more
than just the one spot you have pictured?
From pieces you have shown looks like more.

Are you going to the Dealer for Warr.? Let us know what they assume it is.

Well someone had to be the first to break a clutch basket ...Glad it wasn't me ... Myself and a few others have 500+ runs on our z14s without a problem ( lucky i guess ) But it was bound to happen .... I busted the Basket in my GS1000 , GS1100 and my ZRX1200 ...

You may replace it with another stock basket and never have a problem but i think i would be looking for an after market basket .....Smokin...

the reason the "MFG" wants the outside friction offset is to help the "normal" rider to realize when their clutch pack is wearing out... the fiber will bottom out and indicate the bike is slipping... most dragracers will put all the fibers in a row that way you never have that issue when your trying to make a pass. it will run untill the pressure plate hits the hub... But most dragracers change clutches way before that ever happens...

and that totally sucked ass that it happend!!!
