Yeah, a few of peoples 14's on here make that annoying little knocking sound, including mine. It's the loudest right after it idles back down from a cold start, but after a few miles of riding, I don't hear it as much. I can tell you that it will get better with more miles. Mine still makes the noise, but nothing like it used to. I've got right at 3500 miles on my 07. I was told that the new 10r's and 6's make the same noise, but I haven't heard it for myself. Still though, it wouldn't hurt to take it back and have it checked out.

My buddies 07 with 625 miles is in the shop right now with the same knocking sound. The tech said may have to replace the engines cases, apparently kawasaki know theres a problem. They've (Kawasaki) have had to replace a few.

I could swear there was a thread about engine knocking, and how to fix it. Like maybe it was the counterbalancer or something? Do a search.....

Read this before you go too far.

The site search blows chunks.

The Google search is awesome. It brought me right to the thread by only inputting the word knocking.

I already tried adjusting the counterbalancers, made no improvement.

drained the oil and toke the pan off to take a look. as soon as i saw the oil i knew it wasnt good. i was really hoping it would be something else. the guys at the dealership said theyd warranty it but i wouldnt let them fuckheads open a beer for me, much less a fukkin motor.
as soon as my zx10 motor gets done ill take this one down and drop it off to get repaired.

The 14's cam chain tensioner is noisey on start-up. Kawi's aware of it, and it's normal. As far as another problem, I haven't been informed, and I talked to my service rep a few weeks ago at length about the bike.
