Flat spot on wide open throttle!!

I just got through installing a full muzzy exhaust, bmc race filter, powercommander, and took the secondaries out. I downloaded and installed the map for muzzy full, and no secondaries, but with stock filter, because thats all they had. The bike anything under half throttle is unbeliveable but past that and escpically full throttle there is a flat spot for about 1-2 seconds then boom the power is there but not as much as it should be i think. its almost like its too rich at full throttle, because when I let out quikly after it bogs it shoot a huge flame and pops, and I can smell gas. Maybe someone can tell me a good place to download a map until I can get it dyno tuned. Thanks.

Have the same flat spot on my 14...similar setup too...and not sure why, but it's been getting worse lately though the plugs look fine...will try removing the PC3 to see if that's the cause.

The BMC race has a higher flow rate than the stock filter, esp at WOT. If the tune were developed with the stock filter in place, you should be running lean instead of rich. Lean will be a hollow sounding bog, it will run hotter, you might hear pre-ignition in some cases, and it will backfire on throttle chop. Are your exhaust reed-valves blocked off?

You really need to get it on a dyno with a wideband ASAP.

Hi jdzx14, I assume you used the power commander map, check out my post earlier. "
(PC Maps different - UK & USA )"
Maybe this has something to do with it, between 2.5k and 4k rpm, the map actually reduces the amount of fuel added, this would explain the flat spot. Try the one with "Muzzy slip-ons", looks much better to me. Anyway, my 2c worth

Thanks guys, Sphynx I will try the slip on map, but I guess the best thing would be just to get it tuned on a dyno.

Hey Guys, I'm having the same problems with the same equipment installed. I tried jacking around with the fuel adjustments with no luck. Sure would be nice if Muzzy supplied a map to support their product ! Going to the dyno!

I don't think this is a map issue...I bet if you remove the PC3, the problem will go away...I've just been to lazy/busy to do that...

I'm betting that there's an issue with WOT on the 14 with a PC3...too many guys with the same issues...

Well guys I fixed it, I basically added more fuel between 2500-4500 and took out fuel on the acc pump a little. The bike has great power and doesn't run hot or valve rattle, hell I figured more fuel is better than less when it comes to safety so why not.

Gee Steve... once again you are going to try to grind it in again that you dislike MUZZY... They are a sponsor.. and they did give everyone who requested a map for flies, and no flies. I have had incredible customer service with them. I am in no way bashing Brock... but we all realize that if we don't have your set up we are using inferior parts. Also, if you look, FBA also is having the problem and he has a Brocks... His take... and he is very credible on here.. is that there may be a PC problem. I have yet to hear you 'bash' the Dyno jet Power commander?? It seems you always go after the Muzzy. Make sure you tell Gadson that also... since he is also using Muzzy... By the way... I am using Muzzy and have had a few problems... and it was the PC connections that were attached exactly as the instructions stated... and there was a bad ground... (as we all found out). I am not a Muzzy or Brocks supporter... I say get what you like... which I did. And I am extremely happy with it. I will also add that I have received many, many compliments on the appearance as well as the sound of my 14 from people running busas as well as 1000's. Brock and Rob are both well known, stand up guys who offer the best that they can. I think this forum is lucky to have them both involved.

Glad it worked. I'm now even more convinced the Muzzy map, (full system Secdaries removed) is actually a full system with secondaries in place. Feedback from Muzzy's is as follows:

"Its simple, at lower RPM's the two mufflers flow more air.

Now at the higher RPM's the pipe really starts to scavenge and tuning of the head pipe is even more critical to the proper fuel mapping and visa versa.

Its nothing to worry about. The mapping will do what it do, to make the best over all power and best drive ability. "

Unfortunetly, it does't explain why the slipon map is rich between 2.5k to 4k rpm, and the full system takes fuel away, unless I'm just not bright enough to understand it.

I don't know the reason, but my last 14 had the same thing. I never really noticed it in the short time after I did my install (yoshi full, pcm, air filter, custom map). I took it to a mobile dyno, and the power climbed OK up until about 150, then dipped about 5 hp, then shot up like a rocket to 170. I went down on it not long after that, so I never got to check it out, but it was there.
