Bonneville Update #1

For those of you that want to have one the most exciting times of your lives, the BUB Internations Speed Trial are right around the corner, starting Sep. 2nd. Deadline to register for an FIM (World) record is June 15th.

There are approximately 5 Land Speed events at Bonneville each year but the one I recommend is the BUB Trials.

At Speedweek (two weeks earllier) there are cars and motorcycles competing for times on the salt and sometimes the car tires tear up the salt affecting the small wheels of your motorcycle. The event is run by the BNI/SCTA and the guys are geat but their seems to be more emphasis on cars from what I've heard. They have their own Bonneville record book.

At BUB it is just motorycles only and you have a chance to go for a AMA (National) record or FIM (World) record. They also have a third catagory called "Rungwhatyourbrung". For the FIM and AMA records you have to sign up early but for "rungwhatyourbrung" you just show up at the salts with proper leathers, boots, helmet and a safe motorcycle and let her go. Last year they had a 6 mile run for those under 175 mph and a 10 mile run for those over. This year offers further excitement when 3 or 4 streamliners will be going after the World record again which was set last year at 350 mph. Also this year there will be antique moto GP bikes running on the salts.

The hotels are relatively cheap, the guys and girls open and very friendly and it is a week you will never forget. It would be nice to see a group of guys from Bikeland pitted up next to each other.

Believe it or not weight is your friend at the salts. It keeps the rear wheel from spinning. Some guys actuallyl put lead weights on their bikes. Now make plans to come out.

Dean, if you're serious you need to call Sue Mason today at the AMA and get a packet to fill out. The FIM deadline is right around the corner. If you're over 50 you need a tread mill stress test. Then go to the BUB site. download the forms then fax them in with $ to Delvene. You have plenty of time to submit your paperwork for AMA records but FIM must be done this week.

I've been trying to figure out where my road trip vacation this year should be. this sounds fun. How much does the run what ya brung cost. I think I'll be rolling pretty fast but nowhere near any record time/speed.

Hook me up with at least a guess at cost and I might just make that trip.

Go to the BUB website above. All fees are there. I know it's $40 to join the AMA which is required if you don't alreadly belong. Most rooms at the casinos are only $49-$69 per night. It's a very inexpensive vacationsite.

$100 run-what-you-brung, $325 AMA registration, $450 FIM registration. I think I will stick to Maxton this year, and plan on the BUB event in 2008. Gotta get some more LSR seat time I think. Good luck flyboy. -Dean

Dean, $39 to join AMA and $100 for run-what-you-brung. That's all. If you're going after being in a record book it is more--

It's not the money, I just need more seat time really. I posted the cost for matt above and others. I'm in Florida, so when I go, I will go for a record, even if I have a slim chance of getting it.

What records do you hold BTW?

The tires that came with the 14. I have total confidence in them. If you don't have the Bridgestones your tires have to be Z rated.
