CYCLE INSURANCE- READ!

I totalled my bike a couple weeks ago, and had FULL coverage on the bike, like I always have- But!! They(STATE FARM) do not cover medical payments if you are injured- Only the other person!
Mine is with State Farm, and they have NEVER told me this- I've had over 13 bikes in my time- every time I tell them full coverage-
THINKING, that I had full coverage like a car or truck!
They said they "do not cover motorcycle medical bills, and that they never have"...

State Farm just told me this today, and I am so pissed off right now because they have NEVER made this clear to me! Your policy has to say "medical payments", to have your medical bills paid... If it says bodily injury, it means that they pay for someone other than YOU if they are injured.
CHECK YOUR POLICY TODAY!!! Protect yourself!! I have been with State Farm for 18 years!!!!!! Since I was 16 years old!!!! What a bunch of BULLSHIT!

I'm looking around right now for a new insurance company... Any recommendations???

Wow! I never knew that. I have State Farm as well but I think I did include medical payments as an option. Did you get in an accident with another vehicle?

Sad but true... Many Ins. co. do not insure for medical.
I use Geico, good rates and service.
Medical is thru work, just dont tell them if you were in a sanctioned race or they wont pay either. Special medical coverage for racing needed, $$$ very pricey

I have State Farm as well, and they told me up front that they don't do medical bills.... I was busted up last July on my black 14 and my insurance from work paid all of my med. bills... Thank God for good health insurance!

Nothing new here. Insurance Companies have never included medical. They will sell you it as an option but it is not included by any company I know of.

Wow, I had no idea either, to be honest I guess I am one of the many who thought they would never be hurt. I know it is a reckless way of thinking but I adopted it when I was 16 on a FZ600. Now, 17 years later I really need to think about these things. I have been with State Farm all my driving life as well, they have always been a bit more expensive but have always taken care of me. And yes, that FZ was the last bike I owned that was not a Kaw, I had just mashed up my EX500 and needed something to ride.

I wadded up my 1397 busa last year and got $1000 in med payments from Progressive. It states clearly thats the limit. My health ins picked up the rest. I'm 41 with 1 accident and I pay $604 a year for full coverage, 500 deduct. Before the accident it was about $400.

btw, Progressive is very cool to deal with, A+ in my book.

If you own a Kawasaki the Gieco is the way to go I am 28 and I pay 640 a year full coverage w/ 500 deductibles and 3000 dollars in custom parts coverage. The Gieco agent told me that Kawasaki paid Geico like 20 million dollars to lower rates for their customers (kind of like a limited partnership) she said for instance if you owned a hayabusa with the same coverage you would pay 2600 a year so GEICO IS THE WAY TO GO if you own a kawasaki

Thats not bad, but, I'm 27 and my insurance costs me $392.00 a year for full coverage with a $500.00 deductable, they cover everything. I'm quite happy with State Farm... I was with Nationwide, they wanted $3700.00 a year for the 14 so I said "see ya!" .... Nationwide pisses me off because they now use a customized 14 as their "poster bike" for motorcycle insurance....

It must be a USA thing because I'm with State Farm here in Ontario and when I totalled my ZX12R last year I had to sign that I had no injuries. Strange thing was that all motorcycle gear was covered but not my jeans. To get my jeans covered I needed to make a medical claim which I declioned as it was a pain in the ass(figuratively speaking).

The difference maybe because we have public health care here.

HA! That's a good one!
The thing is- I insure everything pretty heavily- Even full coverage on my old '78 Bronco...They know that- But they never made me aware that there is no medical on the MC- and that it's not even an option! This was the only wreck that I ever had that I can claim as my fault- animal or not... Might be looking at geico next... Still looking...

I do have good health insurance thru work...BUT, if my injuries were $50 grand- I have to pony up $5 grand (as an example 90/10 )
When I had the mustang wreck my medical bills totaled $92,000.00 roughly- In 1995...Other guy guy had no insurance- my underinsured coverage came thru as well as my medical payments... & in this day and age your medical could rack up quicker than greased shit...
Heck, that was LifeFlight chopper and all in 1995- That $92 G then would be like $150 G nowadays... especially w/ gas prices.. .

I'm sorry for your situation Hub. i hope you get something worked out. I've been with State Farm for 7 years now and have never had a problem. I'm also not one for suporting big business and how they treat the little man either. but your anger should be directed at your agent. Mine made sure i understood that i was not covered under the medical. which was ok with me because i have health insurance though work. and if you go to the doctors office--- they pay!
