My clutch is gone at 850 miles

Went to the track tonight and on the first pass, clutch slipped off the line, but made a full pass with almost my normal mph. Second pass, it fried off the line and I coasted the rest of the way. Bled it at the lever and slave cylinder, no air in the lines.

Now, a week ago, I put on a 16t sprocket. Is there any way that the slave cylinder could be put together wrong when putting the sprocket cover back on? I rode between 50-75 miles after changing it and didn't notice the clutch slipping until tonight. When I went to bleed the clutch, the little rubber thing in the reservoir was sucked down, if that means anything. I've got the sprocket cover off right now, but don't see where I could have messed up putting it together before. Any help in finding what happened would be greatly appreciated.

I take it from the statement above that you have been to the track a few times ... You may have just been slipping the clutch too much and burned it up....I does happen to some zx14s owners .... I don't think you did anything wrong adding the sprocket , there is nothing to mess up down there....Get a new set of clutches and try to launch at a lower RPM and get the clutch out faster ....I got over 200+ passes out of my first set at stock wheel base , so you should be able to do the same with some more seat time ... I'm getting ready to take the clutches out right now. I weigh around 280 suited. Maybe that helped burn it up early. I hope I get better. I can't afford the clutches if they only last this long.

The 16t sprocket helped me get the clutch out sooner, that makes it easier on the clutch, right? Never got a chance to see the ET difference, tonight was the first time at the track with it on there and didn't get a good pass. I guess I'll be calling around tomorrow to see if anyone has the clutch in stock.. Thanks

Yes the 16 tooth should help with clutch wear and your ETs and MPH ... 280 pounds yup that will do it ..
But once you get the launch down the clutchs will last a long time ...Make sure you lean the bike over to the right and oil up the clutchs before you stage ...That will help also..Smokin...

just took the clutches out. Steels were mostly black. Fibers were fairly worn and one of the fibers had the material completely gone on one side. Looks like that one was the weak link.

Smokin, do you use, or would you recommend using stiffer springs or spacers for someone my weight?

For your weight yes get some HD springs ....Schnitz has them and Brocks has the spacers ..I can't tell what one works the best because i use stock springs ... If you are not using SYN oil i would change to it ...I use Mobil one 10 w 30 ... My steels are allways black but never warped ..My fibers get thin also .... Some people have been using zx11 plates that have a larger pads on the fibers ..I have one clue if they will last longer but one would think they would ...Smokin.. Here is a picture of my first set 200+ passes...

one more question.... when you changed clutches, did you reuse the side cover gasket. Mine looks alright, just wondering whether to order one or not. Thanks for your help
